Tyler Bailey

A Culpeper man was arrested following an early morning robbery May 30 that left the victim seriously injured.

On May 30, around 3:26 a.m. Culpeper Police Department officers responded to the area of Old Rixeyville Road and Colonel Jameson Blvd. for an injured male attempting to wave down passing vehicles.

The investigation revealed that the adult male victim had been walking when he was approached by Tyler Bailey, 22, of Culpeper. The victim did not know Bailey. Near the intersection of Old Rixeyville Road and Colonel Jameson Blvd, Bailey pulled the victim off the road into an overgrown wetland. Bailey physically assaulted the victim and stole the personal contents of the victim’s person then fleeing the area. The victim was transported to UVA-Charlottesville due to serious non-life threatening injuries.

During the course of the investigation, patrol officers were able to quickly identify Bailey due to prior interactions with law enforcement. He was arrested and a search warrant conducted on his residence by detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division. Bailey was charged with felony aggravated malicious wounding and felony robbery. He is being held without bond at the Culpeper Regional Jail.

The investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with additional information is asked to call Criminal Investigations Division Detective Tony Caruso at 540-829-5528.
