A 17-year-old Culpeper girl was killed and four others injured in a single-vehicle crash early Tuesday on Interstate 64 in Hampton.
The crash occurred shortly before 5 a.m. at the 261 mile marker. A 2017 Kia Forte was traveling west on I-64 when it ran off the right side of the interstate, state police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said.
The vehicle continued behind the guardrail and traveled up a concrete embankment, for the Big Bethel Road overpass, when rolled over and back down the embankment, she said.
The driver, a 17-year-old boy from Culpeper, and three female passengers, all survived. A fourth passenger, a 17-year-old Culpeper girl, was ejected from the car and died at the scene, Geller said.
The three other passengers were taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center and are still being treated for serious injuries. State police are still working to confirm their ages and identities.
The driver has been charged with driving under the influence of drugs, with additional charges pending, Geller said.
The Virginia State Police Chesapeake Division's Crash Reconstruction Team is assisting with the ongoing crash investigation.
