Two thousand, nine-hundred-twenty days, or eight days rather, is what Remy Ma was sentenced to this week after being found guilty of two counts of assault. The sentence came following Remy’s March 27 conviction for shooting her longtime friend twice in the abdomen after a dispute over money last July.

Remy’s attorney Ivan Fisher stated that Remy addressed the court before the sentence. Fisher stated, “Remy Ma spoke to the court and movingly spoke to the victim, who was in court, to share with her how sorrowful she was about what happened to her.”

After the sentence was read Remy reportedly began to cry and told the court “I’m not a thug, I’m not a hard core anything. I have feelings. I’m a wife, mother, daughter, big sister.”
The 26-year-old Remy insists that the shooting was an accident. Following the court proceedings, Remy’s boyfriend/ husband was heard shouting, “All you want is money” in the
hallway.

Remy was to be wed to fellow NY rapper Papoose over the weekend, but the wedding was called off when guards of Riker’s Prison denied Pap entry into the jail. Guards took notice of a suspicious-looking key that was on Papoose’s key ring when he was going through security gates. Claiming that the key could unlock handcuffs, the guards accused Pap of attempting to break Remy out of prison and denied him entry to the prison chapel.

Of the incident, Pap says “ridiculous!” Apparently, the key in question is a key that has been on his key ring for years, including on previous occasions when he has checked the keys into security while visiting Remy at the prison facility.

Whatever the case, this is a terrible story. I feel remorse for everyone involved in this sad situation- Remy, the victim, Remy’s 7-year old son, Papoose; but most of all I feel sorry for the people of New York whose taxes had to pay for this nonsense.

I’m sorry but this Remy and Papoose love affair is hilarious to me. You got Remy serving a bid for shooting someone over money, and you have Pap in the hallway screaming in disgust. Somewhat of a role reversal isn’t it?

Young world out there, pay close attention, there are many lessons to be learned from this situation. Primarily… say no to ignorance.

“Pied Piper” Trial Update

Jury selection has finally begun in the R. Kelly child pornography trial. Three jurors have been selected thus far; leaving nine more jurors and four alternates still needed to be chosen.

Kelly was indicted in February of 2002 on 14 counts of child pornography after a videotape allegedly showing the R&B star having sex with a then 14-year-old girl that was anonymously sent to the Chicago Sun-Times. The Sun-Times then turned the tape over to the FBI, that deemed the tape authentic. Kelly has denied that it is he who is shown in the videotape and has
proclaimed his innocence.

Many have wondered why an indictment that took place in 2002 has taken so long to get to trial. As MTV reports, the bottom line has been paper work and … life.

Kelly’s attorneys have filed a number of motions that have delayed the trial. Furthermore, the court has often given permission for Kelly to tour over the last six years so that the artist could make money to pay his ongoing legal fees.

Aside from that, the judge in the case fell off a ladder and broke his back in 2006; Kelly’s appendix burst last year; the lead prosecutor had a baby last summer; and one of Kelly’s attorney’s died last month. So the trial may have often been delayed, but life kept on moving.

Well now it seems that Kelly will get his day in court. The trial is expected to last four weeks and the Pied Piper is facing 15 years in prison.

Meet Local Feature Artist
Bruce “BRICK Flaco” Jackson was born Aug. 14, 1984, in Hollis, Queens. The emergence of dangerous drug activity and violence caused his family to move to Laurelton; a suburb of Jamaica, Queens. There, Bruce spent his adolescent years hanging out on the streets of Merrick Boulevard and Jamaica Avenue.

Throughout his life in Queens, he experienced and observed angst in the community. Bruce turned to art and poetry as a way of escaping the negativity that claimed his environment.

Bruce’s love for music started when he saw his first hip hop music video, “I’m Bad” by LL Cool J. From there he found the influence to enhance his poetry to the likeness of hip hop.

BRICK started writing rhymes on Christmas of 1993 when his parents bought him a boombox radio. With this radio, he would record himself rhyming lines from “I Shot Ya (Remix)” by LL Cool J. BRICK would copy verses from these songs and convert them to fit his style and story. However, his verbal skills elevated after meeting Edward EZ Zephyrin, his producer, in his
junior year of high school.

In 2007, Ton O Bricks Entertainment was formed by the dynamic duo. In that same year BRICK met up with Super Producers Montel “Mac” Wilson and Ashton “Melo” Henderson of the infamous ENVERSE Entertainment while residing in Woodbridge.

Brick’s major influences were Big L, Killa Cam, Mase, Bloodshed, and Herb McGruff (better known as Children of the Corn), Jay-Z, Notorious BIG, fellow Queens’ rappers Nas, LL Cool J, Tribe called Quest, and Big Punisher.

Brick’s debut album … The Revolution- 10 tracks of that old hip hop that we grew to love with a fresh new twist, was released under his independent label Ton O Bricks Entertainment Music Group on March 15th 2008.

BRICK and Super Producers Enverse Entertainment have recently completed a model shoot for New Era’s “Fitted Campaign.”
