Alleged street race gathering broken up in Fairfax

Fairfax County police charged 37 youth and adults with trespassing after breaking up an alleged street race gathering.

According to a police news release, 27 of those charged were from the Prince William and Manassas areas.

Officers were called to a church in the 15400 block of Lee Highway in the Bull Run area around 12:45 a.m. Saturday and found numerous people and vehicles in the church’s parking lot, the news release states.

Police believe the group was preparing to street race.

Anyone caught and convicted of racing is subject to lose their vehicle, have their license suspended for up to two years, imprisonment for up to 12 months and a maximum fine of $2,500, Fairfax police said.

“Our department has always taken street racing seriously,” said police spokeswoman Officer Shelley Broderick. “Fairfax has a zero tolerance [policy].”
