Prince William police are investigating a complaint of a man impersonating a police officer and trying to abduct an 18-year-old on the night of March 28, police said Friday.
According to police, an unknown man approached two teens sitting inside their car in the 5300 block of Dale Boule-vard in Dale City around 9:30 p.m. and identified himself as an off-duty officer who was conducting an investigation.
A 15-year-old boy was asked to walk away and the woman was ordered to stay, said Officer Erika Hernandez, police spokeswoman.
That's when police say the impersonator tried to get the woman inside his vehicle. He fled when the 15-year-old turned back to help his friend, Hernandez said.
The impersonator was described as black, between 20 and 30 years old, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall with a medium build, police said.
He had short black hair, possibly "cropped cornrow," a light mustache with a beard or a goatee.
Police said he was driving a black pickup truck. The victims were not injured during the incident.

Why does it take a week to get an important notice such as this to the public?
