Authorities have charged a Woodbridge man with setting fire to a mobile home leaving a man severely burned.
Atilano Santos Sampayo, 36, of 13950 Jefferson Davis Highway, Lot 55, was charged with aggravated malicious wounding, burglary with intent to commit arson and five counts of attempted malicious wounding, said Officer Erika Hernandez, Prince William police spokeswoman.
Additionally, the Fire Marshal's Office has charged Sampayo with arson of an occupied dwelling.
Around 5 a.m. Sunday, police and fire and rescue workers responded to one of the lots at the Marumsco Mobile Home Park on U.S. 1 in Woodbridge, Hernandez said.
Sampayo and another man got into a fight at a party at one of the trailers, police said.
Sampayo was told to leave, but came back, forced his way into the trailer home and set it on fire, Hernandez said.
As the other men inside were trying to escape, they tripped over the burn victim and then dragged him to safety, Hernandez said.
The burn victim, a 35-year-old man who also lives at the trailer park, was flown to the regional burn center and is expected to survive, Hernandez said.
No other injuries were reported.
Police are still investigating the reason for the fight, Hernandez said.
Sampayo is being held without bond at Prince William-Manassas regional jail pending a May 21 court hearing, police said.
