A Manassas man was shot and killed Saturday night near the Grant Avenue Shopping Center in Manassas.

Omar Florencio-Vazquez, 24, of the 9000 block of Beech Place, was shot to death in the 9600 block of Grant Avenue at about 9 p.m. Saturday, said Sgt. Tim Neumann, public information officer for the Manassas City Police Department.

Vazquez, two brothers and a cousin were walking to the Grant Avenue Shopping Center to get something to eat when they encountered a group of about 10 Hispanic men, Neumann said. The victim recognized the group as the same individuals that beat him up two weeks prior.

Vazquez, his brothers and cousin decided to leave the shopping center to avoid a confrontation. As they were walking back home, the group followed them out of the shopping center when one of the men from the group pulled out a gun and shot at the victim several times, killing him, Neumann said.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, about 5 feet 5 inches tall, 190 pounds, and was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and blue jean shorts.

The Manassas City Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest in this case. The confidential 24-hour tip line is 703-330-0330.

Georgetown South has been a bad place for a long time, crimes like this which are common there continue to happen. I hope they fry the bastard who did this. Chris Cummings

I’ve lived in Manassas for 20 years and I don’t ever remember georgetown south being nice. In school everyone always talked about how dangerous it was. And yes, there are a lot of hispanics but there are still many african americans there also. And in COVERSTONE APPT, THEY TOO HAVE A POLICE STATION THERE. That is in Manassas but not manassas city.

I agree that this kind of incident is a tragedy no matter what the legal status of the victim is. I also think that every member of the group with the shooter should be tracked down and charged and if found to be illegal then sweep their families and freinds with a large deportation. Yes, legal citizens commit crimes too I know, but anyone illegal should not be here to commit a crime in the first place.

I am all for the crackdown on illegal immigrants, but to blame them for the problems in Georgetown South just isn’t right.  Georgetown South has been plagued with Crime (drug dealing, stabbings, shootings, rape, robbery) since the early 80’s ( or even earlier) at which time there were very few hispanics living anywhere in Prince William County.

Supermomof1,
Have you been through that community? I have to ride by it every day on the way home. It is the only community within Manassas that has Police Station within it’s boundries. It was once a beautiful community with all brick town homes but it has rapidly gone down hill in the last 15 years. The once dominant black residents have gone only to leave it to the many poor undeducated Hispanics who flooded the area. I have no use for any of those thugs.

COBRA your comments about Georgetown South are completely uncalled for.  There is crime EVERYWHERE from all nationalities.  And your assumtions of these men being illegal...well we all know what ASSUME means!

As for the victim and his family this man tried to avoid a conflict, unfortunately violence once again has taken the life a human.

I’m sure the illegal alien applogist won’t agree but I sure see an uprise in Hispanic Males committing violent crimes in and around Prince William County. Thanks to the illegal immigrant resolution, we are already seeing a decrease in Illegal Hispanic Males in PW County which is a good thing. Also time to blow up the community called Georgetown South. That place is infested with criminals.
