Authorities in Maryland on Saturday arrested a man accused of shooting a 33-year-old man in the Lake Ridge area on Friday night and then fleeing the state, police said.
Around 6:10 p.m., Prince William County police responded to a shooting in the 12700 Lotte Drive and found a 33-year-old Woodbridge man with a gunshot wound to the chest, said Officer Erika Hernandez, police spokes-woman.
The victim was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital, Hernandez said, and is expected to recover.
Police believe 37-year-old Jerry Leon Thompson, the man who has been charged in the shooting, drove to the vic-tim's apartment, knocked on the door and then once inside shot him, Hernandez said.
Afterward, police say, the suspect fled to his home in Maryland.
The Charles County Sheriff's deputies went to Thompson's house early Saturday morning and negoti-ated with him to surrender.
Thompson was charged with being a fugitive from justice and is being held without bond pending extradition to Virginia, Hernandez said.
Thompson, of 9992 Wamsley Court in White Plains, has been charged in Prince William with aggravated malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, Hernandez said.
Hernandez said the victim does not know Thompson but is an acquaintance of his wife.
