Two Manassas men charged with drug use
Shawn Thomas Cavender, 31, of 7490 Willoughby Lane, Apt. 302, near Manassas, was charged with two counts possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of psychedelic mushrooms and possession of marijuana at his residence around 3:29 a.m. Thursday, said Officer Erika Hernandez, Prince William police spokeswoman.
Officer R.M. Harris conducted a search warrant at the residence after receiving information that there were drugs inside the apartment, Hernandez said, and seized approximately $16,000.
Travis Leshun Jones, 24, who also lives at the apartment, was also charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, Hernandez said.
He is being held in lieu of a $2,000 bond, police said, and Cavender was held in lieu of a $3,000 bond. Each is scheduled to appear in court June 2.
Man charged with reckless driving after hitting bus
A Manassas Park man was charged with reckless driving after wrecking a school bus on the side of a roadway in Rockingham County on Saturday afternoon.
Virginia Sate Police issued the bus driver, Mark McCoy, 26, of Manassas Park a court summons on a charge of reckless driving.
The bus driver lost control of the bus, which overturned after running off Va. 42 near Gardner Lane, police said.
The wreck occurred at about 1:30 p.m., said Sgt. F.L. Tyler, a spokesman for state police.
Two adults and 10 children, whose ages range from 8 to 17, were on board the bus when it wrecked, Tyler said.
Two were flown to the University of Virginia Medical Center and the rest were taken to Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Tyler said. No information on their conditions was available.
The bus is owned by McLean Bible Church, Tyler said, but he did not know where the group was headed.
Fire started outside Woodbridge restaurant
Materials inside large metal trash can at Smokey Bones Restaurant, 2601 Prince William Parkway, in Woodbridge caught fire late Sunday night, according to the Prince William County Department of Fire and Rescue.
According to the department, fire and rescue workers received a call of a commercial fire around 11:08 p.m.
When firefighters arrived, they found a large metal trashcan that was smoking, a news release sent Monday states.
Sprinklers had activated and suppressed the fire, the news release stated, and no significant damage was done to any other property.
