Woman is airlifted
after bicycle crashes
A 47-year-old woman was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital from Gar-Field High School in Woodbridge after crashing her bicycle behind CompUSA on Potomac Mills Road in Woodbridge on Tuesday afternoon.
The woman was test-driving a bicycle from a nearby pawnshop when the front wheel went into a stormwater grate, causing her to flip over the handlebars and land on her head, said Randy Earl, spokesman for the Prince William County Department of Fire and Rescue.
She was airlifted to the hospital because she was not responding clearly to questions rescue workers were asking, Earl said.
It appears the woman, who was not identified, was not wearing a helmet at the time.
Although helmets are only required for youth 14 and under, Earl recommends all bicyclists wear one.
Two Manassas boys accused of store theft
Two 17-year-old Manassas boys were charged with burglary after allegedly breaking into a convenience store in the 12200 block of Kahns Road in the Lake Jackson area around 9:45 p.m. Thursday, said Officer Erika Hernandez, Prince William police spokeswoman.
The teens, whose names were not released because they are minors, are accused of stealing cigarettes, beer, gum and cash valuing $398, Hernandez said.
Both were released to a parent and will have hearings in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
Nokesville man accused of larceny from grocery
James Vernon Cockrill, 24, of 4421 Ringwood Road in Nokesville, was charged with grand larceny after allegedly stealing $1,090.85 worth of various household items from a grocery store in the 10800 block of Sudley Manor Drive near Manassas around 6:52 p.m. Saturday, said Officer Erika Hernandez, Prince William police spokeswoman.
Cockrill was held without bond and has a scheduled court date of Sept. 22.
Rock is thrown
at bedroom window
A rock was thrown at a bedroom window of a house in the 16700 block of Sweeney Lane near Dumfries between 4:30 and 10:15 p.m. Saturday, said Officer Erika Hernandez, Prince William police spokeswoman.
Police said the damage is estimated at $300. No injuries were reported.
Object thrown at Jeep while riding on Parkway
An unknown object was thrown at a 2004 Jeep Cherokee while it was traveling on Prince William Parkway near West Longview Drive in Woodbridge around 3:50 a.m. Saturday, said Officer Erika Hernandez, Prince William police spokeswoman.
Police said minor damage was done to the SUV.
Three charged with possession with intent
Three people were each charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana during a traffic stop in the area of Va. 234 and Irongate Way near Manassas around 11:06 p.m. July 22, said Officer Erika Hernandez, Prince William police spokeswoman.
Awl Ali, 21, of 10868 Felicia Court in Manassas, was held in lieu of a $50,000 bond; Judson Bert Neal, 20, of 8393 Gather St. in Manassas, was held in lieu of a $25,000 bond; and Harrison George Brown, 20, of 4628 Midland Road in Midland, was held without bond, Hernandez said.
Each is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 25.
Man, 35, arrested after
gunshots are heard
Police arrested a 35-year-old Woodbridge man on three criminal charges after hearing gunshots while patrolling in the 11400 block of Alessi Drive in the Lake Jackson area around 6:30 p.m. Saturday, said Officer Erika Hernandez, Prince William police spokeswoman.
Officers located a man driving a 2008 Chevrolet Colorado near a house under construction and stopped to investigate, Hernandez said.
The driver was identified as Alvaro Leonel Amezquita, 35, of 4921 Lombard Lane in Dale City, and was charged with reckless handling of a firearm, a concealed weapon violation and driving under the influence, Hernandez said.
Amezquita was held in lieu of a $5,000 bond, but his court date was not available, police said.
No injuries were reported.
Three fail in Dale City robbery attempt
Three men unsuccessfully tried to rob a 24-year-old Dale City man in the area of Dale Boulevard and Hoadly Road in Dale City around 9:20 p.m. Thursday, said Officer Erika Hernandez, Prince William police spokeswoman.
Police said the would-be robbers approached the man and demanded money.
When the 24-year-old refused, one struck the victim on his back with a blunt object, Hernandez said. The victim was not injured.
Warrant out for man in brick-throwing incident
Prince William County police have warrants for the arrest of Roscoe Westly Skinner, 45, of 9519 School St. in Manassas, on the charges of throwing missiles at an occupied dwelling and destruction of property, said Officer Erika Hernandez, Prince William police spokeswoman.
Skinner is accused of throwing a brick at a window of an acquaintance's house in the 10900 block of Mission Ridge Drive in the Manassas area around 3:33 a.m. Sunday, Hernandez said.
No one was injured during the incident.
Shots are heard
in area near Manassas
Police received several calls of shots fired in the area of Portici Place and Jamaica Lane near Manassas around 12:25 a.m. Monday, said Officer Erika Hernandez, Prince William police spokeswoman.
The one or more shooters fled the scene before police arrived, Hernandez said.
There were no injuries or property damage reported, police said.
