A 48-year-old Woodbridge man surrendered to police around 3:30 p.m. following an hours-long standoff that started after a Woodbridge gas station was held-up this morning, Prince William County police said.

Gregory Morgan, 1802 Old Post Terrace, has been transported to Gar-Field police substation and has been charged with armed robbery, said police spokeswoman Officer Erika Hernandez. Additional charges are pending.

Members of the Prince William Police Department’s Special Weapons and Tactics team were at the scene for several hours this afternoon, negotiating with a man who barricaded himself in a house in the 1800 block of Old Post Terrace.

Police believe the man robbed the Sunoco gas station at 1260 Annapolis Way in Woodbridge at 10:40 a.m., Hernandez said.

The robbery victims told police that the man entered the store, attacked a clerk, forced him behind the counter and demanded money, Hernandez said.

The clerk fought back when the man reached into the cash register, police said.

The manager of the Sunoco station witnessed the attack and called police. Customers saw the man drive away and gave police a description of the pick-up truck he was driving, Hernandez said.

Police traced the truck to an address in the 1800 block of Old Post terrace. When they spotted the truck a man jumped out and ran, Hernandez said.

Police chased the man who they believe doubled back to the house where he barricaded himself, Hernandez said.

The police previously reported that a boy, who was also in the house, had surrendered. Police now say the boy was not involved in the armed robbery, Hernandez said.

Both robberies were actually solved because of VERY good police work by PWCPD.  I find it hard to believe that somebody would be complaining about the police arresting a robbery suspect, wow, talk about ignorance.  I guess you really can’t please everyone.  Did you expect the cops to go knock on the door of a robbery suspect and politely ask him to come out?  Get real.

I am pretty disgusted by some of the comments left on here. From a Govenment employee of PW and in LE what the police did was exactly what they should have. If you don’t like what the PWPD did and are that concerned with your tax money then move! Unfortuanally that is how the Police dept works and tough. They are out there to protect the county and the community and if you aren’t happy with your taxes going to that then move to a place where there is no crime. The people that complain about things like this do not know what crime is and never will know. so just move thats all i can tell you!

Talk about people turning a subject into a nightmare.  The beginning of this was a simple comment and now it’s turned into a taxpayer issue and a police bashing.  I don’t think anyone even was going down that road, but obviously some people like to stir the pot.  I’m sure everyone appreciates the cops and that is why we pay taxes, so what is all the other banter for?

I am shocked that anyone would worry about how much this would cost tax payers . If either of the 2 robberys happened to any of us or our families , we would expect the same treatment by our police force. God bless the hardworking men and women in our police force who protect us and our families from people like the ones in these robberies and only ask for a litte respect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now if the police wouldn’t have shown up in full force, you would be crying that not enough attention was given to the matter at hand.  Get a grip.. get over, as long as you weren’t hurt then you shouldn’t be crying about it.

“What it cost the taxpayers”?  Get real!  The police are out there 24/7 and getting paid - not enough - to risk their lives to keep YOU (and the rest of the taxpayers) safe!  Did the taxpayers spend any more money today than any OTHER day to have the police protecting the victim(s) of this assault and robbery?  Don’t take your safety for granted.  Without police we would become a lawless society.  Remember: The police are not paid for WHAT they do, but rather what they may HAVE to do.

Kim, get a damn grip.  Anny, I guess Kim did not read about the other idiots who committed the bank robbery and their “get away vehicle” was a motor scooter.

Oh come on Kim!  The comment was made due to the other robbery made in Dumfries last week at the United bank in triangle shopping center and that WAS on a motor scooter, and just to let you know, the police were in force for that one also.  Try doing some research before you “dog” someone.

What was wrong with the comment Kim.  I thought it was funny.  I live in the neighborhood and thought he killed somebody the way the police had everything blocked off. The man robbed a gas staton and ran home.  Fiftey police officers, k-9’s and t.v. crews everywhere. Do you know how many more violent crimes and illegal things happened that the suspect end up getting away from the police working on this one situation.  I pay taxes to and you would think he killed somebody the way they responded.  It was a bad situation but I think they went alittle overboard. And to let him hold people inside their houses, they should of thrown gas inside that house after that boy got out.

LOL, when I received the e-mail alert, it said: “Police chase robbery suspect.” When I came back to this page, the title and content had changed. The previous edit mentioned that police were looking for someone.
