Prince William County police are asking for help identifying a suspect in a sexual assault that occurred earlier this week.
Authorities released a composite sketch Thursday afternoon in hopes it would spark leads in the case.
The incident happened shortly before 6:30 p.m. Monday in the 3600 block of Wharf Lane in Triangle, said Officer Erika Hernandez, Prince William police spokeswoman.
According to police, a 15-year-old Dumfries girl was walking through the woods when an unknown man pinned her against the rear fence of a town house and began to sexually assault her.
The girl was eventually able to break free and run to a friend's house on Kilmer Lane in Triangle to call police, Hernandez said.
The attacker was described as a white or Hispanic man, approximately 30 years old, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and 200 pounds, police said.
He was wearing black shoes, black jeans, a gray hooded sweatshirt with red vertical stripes on the sleeves and a black New York Yankees cap.
Anyone with information about the attack or the assailant is asked to call Prince William County Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS. Callers don't have to give their name, just the information, and could earn up to a $1,000 cash
reward.
