Manassas police believe Omar Florencio-Vazquez's killer was one of a group that beat up the 24-year-old several weeks before he was shot dead, but investigators have no motive for Saturday night's fatal shooting and no arrests had been made as of Tuesday afternoon, Sgt. Tim Neumann, police spokesman, said Tuesday.
"Other things have come through the investigation, [but we are] not yet at a point for us to disseminate [that information]," Neumann said.
On Saturday night, Florencio-Vazquez, who lived in the Georgetown South neighborhood, was walking to the Grant Avenue Shopping Center in the city with his two brothers and cousin to get something to eat, police said.
The four decided to turn back after Florencio-Vazquez saw a group of about 10 males who had attacked him two weeks earlier, police said.
But the group followed them out of the shopping center as they walked home, Neumann said.
One of the men from the group then pulled out a gun and shot Florencio-Vazquez several times, police said.
Police only described the shooter as a Hispanic male, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall, 190 pounds and last seen wearing a white T-shirt and blue jean shorts. A more detailed description was not available Tuesday, Neumann said.
