Much to do for the vulnerable
Barack Obama, our 44th President of the United States of America, will be sworn in on January 20, 2009. This will be history in the making.
Hate speech is not acceptable
Mr. James Rippe’s Nov. 1 letter to editor is an unacceptable example of hate speech that attacks Obama and his supporters and mirrors similar attacks at the highest levels of the Virginia and National Republican party.
Yes we did; thanks to you
The local success of the Democratic Party in Prince William County this year was in large part thanks to our dedicated volunteers. This was a long, tough election cycle, but due to the energy and commitment from the thousands of local volunteers, it was a tremendous and historic success!
Liberal shows his true colors
I would like to thank Mr. Joe Novak for revealing the true character of his ilk — be it liberal, Democrat or both.
Bar scene picture was inappropriate
I awoke on Wednesday morning to a very monumental day in political history. I went outside to pick up my paper, anxious to see your headline. I have to say it was clever, but maybe not too original.
That’s acceptable.
Some do like Math Investigations
I am writing regarding Math Investigations. There are many parents against it, but many of us are for it.
Tragedy and a walk to remember
The Manassas City school system has experienced sudden and tragic losses over the past month.
Contribution to the election of Obama
As we celebrate the conclusion of the most intense presidential campaign of our lifetimes, I am sitting in stunned gratitude at the overwhelming response of our country to the inspiring young man who will be our next president.
Do you know what you have done?
I would really like to know whether those who supported and voted for Sen. Barack Obama ever considered the full ramifications of him being elected?

Jacobsen is wrong on defamation
As an attorney who has actually litigated a defamation suit in a Virginia federal court, I respectfully suggest that Mr. Jacobsen’s editorial about libel was incorrect, misleading and written to “scare” those with whom he differs in opinion and/or fact.
Make Dale City walking friendly
I couldn’t help but notice articles in the Washington Post and the News & Messenger about the recent Planning Commission Hearing on land use in regards to community focused centers.
Thanks to those who contributed
The ladies of the Forest Park High School Girls Basketball team would like to thank everyone who gave a donation during our fundraising drive in Montclair the weekend of Oct. 4 and 5.
Hope for a country without violence
I recently saw “No Country for Old Men” whose main protagonist Chigurh is a diabolical psychopath; a character who is not valued for traditional or archtypical qualities such as bravery but precisely because he lacks these.
What will Obama’s ‘change’ mean?
Your Oct. 30, “Our View” column was directed to those of us who write to your paper with our concerns and with information that is not common knowledge.

Only Gov. Kaine can save us now
In his letter on Nov. 5, Mr. Harry Wiggins highlighted the inability of his former boss, Del. Paul Nichols, to enact any legislation to stop the Interstate 95/Interstate 395 HOT lanes in the General Assembly. This is unfortunate.
HOT decisions shouldn’t be secret
The Board of Supervisors has passed a resolution demanding that state transportation officials appear before the board to answer questions about HOT lanes on Interstates 95 and 395.
Elected treasurer still valid in MP
I would like to thank my fellow citizens of Manassas Park who voted to keep our elected treasurer.

Obama transforms from bad to good
Now we’ve done it. We’ve gone and elected a socialist who pals around with terrorists. A guy who sits in church for 20 years and roots for a reverend who hates America — that must mean that he hates America too.
Honor to those who led the way
It takes a long time to clean up many years of a failed government.
Wasteful spending rampant in PWC
Thanks to Cheryl Chumley for coverage of the Prince William County budget meeting.
HOT lanes are wrong for Virginia
I read with interest the article titled “Turning up the heat on HOT lanes.” I guess I am most upset with the placement on page four and not on the front page.

Outrage at the media’s coverage
As the presidential campaign grinds to an end, I am thoroughly outraged and disgusted by the slanted views we received from TV and newspaper coverage.
Finding a better way to cast votes
It is amazing how the discussion on the merits or demerits of voting machines and whether they are going to be scrapped or replaced at great cost seems to take place outside the context of modern technology and how we all live and function.
Praise for all of the true heroes
This is in response to the article, “There is no such thing as unselfish concern,” written by Michael Ragland and printed on Oct. 4.
Failure to thwart HOT lanes in PWC
This is in reference to Cheryl Chumley’s report of Oct. 25, “Turning up heat on HOT lanes.”

Help to get rid of world hunger
As I walk in the entrance to school, I just look around to count the number of people with Starbucks, McDonald’s even Denny’s, and it’s always quite a number! Since we consume so much on the road, we have to make up for our fast food habits at the gym.
Cost of the crackdown
The illegal immigrant crack-down in Prince William County continues.
Local youth join global UN effort
The youth at Saint Mark’s United Methodist Church (UMC) in Manassas will be joining the global United Nations effort to remove landmines and unexploded ordinance in 29 countries by participating in the Schonstedt Humanitarian Demining Initiative.

Federal bailout was no surprise
I have lived a relatively long time — long enough to see many complex and diversified developments occur. However, nothing compares to the recent federal government bailout situation.
National health care disaster
We all know that a national health care system will be a disaster. There are two major issues at play when it comes to health care.
