More than a thanks for parade committee
A simple thank you just isn’t enough for our fabulous 2008 Dale City Parade Committee.
Don’t forget humanity of Barack Obama
Barack Obama, his wife, Michelle and their two children are human beings that have hearts that pump at 60 beats a minute.
The passing of a local icon in Woodbridge
On July 16, the passing of Woodbridge business entrepreneur Bob Roadcap was a melancholy moment from the ‘70s and ‘80s for many who recall spending Saturday mornings in Bob’s Sport Shop at Occoquan and Horner Roads chatting about Friday night’s high school games.
Reader stunned by attack on the Pope
I sit stunned after seeing the vicious cartoon attack on the Pope and, by extension, the Catholic Church, with the cute caption, “Pope Rejects Consumer Culture.” This came from a Spanish political-cartoon Web site, and was translated for our benefit.

The true story of Roe v. Wade
Thank you for the front page coverage of Stephanie Hopping with the American Life League, protesting Planned Parenthood’s meeting at Chinn Park Regional library.
A nation of laws that must be respected
This is in response to the letter, “No desire for your sympathy or respect,” by Ruben Pineda.
Soon, you won’t have Bush to kick around
Oh my, just what are the whacky, freaked-out, liberal George Bush haters going to do when he is out of office. My goodness, Mr. Remener and Mr. Chandler (who both had their wild rantings published in this paper recently), I ask you just what is going to occupy your time after January 20?

Shameful decisions in Prince William County
I do hope many read the article, “Sights to see ... so close to home,” along with the elegant scene of the restored Brentsville courthouse featured in the July 13 edition of the Potomac News & Manassas Journal Messenger.
No safe haven for birds in Montclair
Riddle: When is a bird sanctuary not a bird sanctuary?
Opinion on alternative energy misleading
Your July 21 Opinion piece “Hot air fuels energy” quoted from another newspaper sounded much like a parody of the oil industry PR releases of 10 years ago.

Removing North Korea from list is wrong
Why has North Korea been removed from the list of terror nations?

ODS makes the community safer
This is in response to a recent letter by C. P. Brothers III.
How effective are the Democrats really?
Could Mr. Gary Jacobsen be any more disillusioned? Mr. Jacobsen, before you go out bashing Republican Congressmen please keep this in mind: the current Congress is controlled by the Democrats. Here are just a few examples of what the “effective” Democrats are all about.
Approval rating tells truth about Congress
If the top 10 most effective people in Congress are Democrats, and the Democrats control both houses of Congress, why is the Congressional approval rating in single digits and falling? (I guess it’s the Republicans fault.)

Attack on Bush was inappropriate
How truly sad and ironic that in the the days surrounding celebration and commemoration of the principles and ideals on which our nation was founded, we are assailed by a rude partisan critique and politicization of the presence of our president at the naturalization ceremony at Monticello.
Does Obama have a chance in Virginia?
I found your editorial, “A fighting chance for Obama in Virginia?” quite interesting.
The inequities of no-fault divorce
Another routine edict has been cast at the court house. It’s that proverbial act known as no-fault divorce, where equal parenting time gets less scrutiny than applying for a Virginia fishing license.

Kaine swings and misses — 98 times
Del. Jeff Frederick comments on the recent special session on transportation.

Help was there when I needed it
I wish to thank Dr. Bukzin D.D.S. and staff for helping me in a time of need.
Enough lecturing from Mr. Angsten
Joe Angsten should not be lecturing Democrats about “competence” in government and his resistance to Obama’s call for “change.”
Our future in using our fuel effectively
It is fairly clear that in the near future there will not be enough gas and oil to supply the world’s “need.” However, instead of addressing this problem head-on, we are trying to build more roads (to “solve” traffic gridlock) and to search for new fields of gasoline and oil (to “decrease” price of fuel at the pumps).
Great article deserves a front-page spot
Saturday’s article about DeCarol Davis, the first black female valedictorian of the Coast Guard Academy, who by the way, graduated from a local high school, Forest Park, did not make it to the front page of the Potomac News
A sarcastic thanks for clearing our community
I am a 17-year-old caucasian girl who has lived in Manassas my whole life.

George Bush is a sorry president and man
The front page story “Reaction Positive to Webb’s G.I. Bill” in the July 2 Potomac News was a fitting tribute to Sen. Jim Webb, who worked diligently for 18 months to get the bill through Congress.
Outward expressions don’t make a patriot
Over the years I have read with occasional interest the rantings and ravings written by Mr. Vic Poillucci. I had hoped that aging would have produced better results but his recent letter berating the patriotism of Barack Obama is hog-wash and a bird-call — cheep, cheep and cheep.
The inspiration of Old Dominion Speedway
Mr. Brothers III, have you ever heard of “Grandfather Clause?”
County traffic solutions are being shortchanged
Much is being made of the cost of the recent General Assembly special session where transportation solutions would have helped residents of Prince William County, and I agree that it is absolutely unconscionable for our representatives to take $120,000 in taxpayer money to accomplish nothing on this all-important issue.

The absurd acts of the PWCSA
How absurd it is for the Prince William County Sewer Authority to even mention cutting the water off or expecting payment for their not-so-bright mistake.
Higher education, loans, student rights
While the media has been covering the student loan “crisis,” advertising the fears of the banking industry that they will be put out of business by the newest market and government trends, few people are continuing to discuss issues from the student borrower side.
