The Post is not a good basis for opinion

Regarding a Manassas letter of Aug. 1, I couldn’t pass on a reaction. When you used the Post opinion for reference on to how to govern or rate your reputation, you begin with a bad limp.

Addressing the mess that Bush made

Don Scott’s letter of July 26 was ostensibly a response to my criticism of George W. Bush and John McCain for showing disdain for our troops by opposing Sen. Jim Webb’s G.I. bill, and then hypocritically claiming credit for its passage.

Discussing what is done with graffiti

In his letter to the editor on Aug. 7, Mr. Earl Dixon expressed his concerns regarding graffiti in his neighborhood.

Thanks for making the swim a success

I want to thank everyone who supported me on my 20 mile swim on Aug. 1.

Why can’t we all just get along on the roads

For the life of me I can’t comprehend why it is so hard for some people to allow others to merge into traffic.

The consequences of deportation

At the 2008 National Migration Conference, the Catholic bishop of Guatemala asked the Director of ICE:  “Are you conscious of the consequences of deportation on families and on the economies of their home countries?”

Reader lets Senator Obama defend himself

In response to the recent cartoon satirizing Senator Obama’s comment about properly inflated tires. Let him speak for himself.

Stewart’s efforts deserve no applause

The county “crime rate” has been declining since 2001.

John McCain does not support our troops

When John Mc Cain says he supports our troops and they support him, it is a lie.

President Bush’s decision was justified

I have done my homework. In early July, Canada received a final shipment of 550 metric tons of yellowcake uranium from Iraq.

The people who make a difference

I want to thank Dr. Bukzin DDS and staff for helping me in a time of need.

Generosity made this gift possible

Thanks to the generosity of Rolling Thunder and of the Lake Ridge/Dale City/Manassas communities as well as a Special Education Class at Forest Park High School, Fox’s Pizza Den was able to send almost 200 camouflage Christmas stockings to service members in several camps in Iraq.

Yao Ming and Chinese influence in the U.S.

We can see an allegorical example of China’s influence on our country through the National Basketball Association.

Interested in issues for the upcoming election

This letter is written in response to “Substance vs. surface in politics” (Potomac News, August 6).

Stewart was for it before he was against it

I find the Board of County Supervisors Chairman Corey Stewart’s statement that the General Assembly’s authorization of the NVTA was “criminal because they knew or should have known that was unconstitutional,” inconsistent with his subsequent vote on the law.

Successful forum for VRE and Haymarket

Thank you very much for the complete coverage your reporter, Kipp Hanley, gave to the VRE public meeting recently and for your related opinion column.

Offshoring of jobs in the United States

I work in Information Technology and have seen a tremendous increase in the offshoring of American jobs over the past couple of years that is frightening!

There is still freedom of speech in Montclair

Recently, the Montclair Property Owner’s Association Board decided to turn over the overpopulation problem of the geese in Lake Montclair to the USDA in order to keep the “fouling” of the lake to a minimum.

More sleep apnea support is needed

We need to have more support groups in our communities for the sleep apnea patients.

A more productive approach to big oil

Among a spate of negative TV ads released by John McCain in the last couple of weeks, one tells us Barack Obama is somehow responsible for the high prices at the gas pump because Obama realizes that we cannot drill our way out of our energy problems.

Fimian is out of touch on the social issues

Aside from abortion and the death penalty, the Republican candidate running for Tom Davis’ seat considers other social issues “irrelevant” in the 11th Congressional District.

We want Prince William County to be green

Prince William County is in the process of prioritizing their financial goals in the 2010-2013 Strategic Plan.

From the City of Compton to Dale City

I was born in 1971, in the semi-peaceful city of Compton California, where our current leadership, the Bush family, even once resided.

Reader with respect for Corey Stewart

Over the last several weeks, I have read in these pages a litany of letters denigrating the leadership of Chairman Corey Stewart and the Prince William Board of County Supervisors in addressing the issue of illegal immigration.

Kaine can’t balance out far-left ticket

I’m tired of reading and hearing from political pundits telling me as a Virginia independent what I will do if Kaine gets the vice president spot.

GOP leadership is out of touch

I’m an independent and letters such as Delegate Frederick’s are laughable, regardless of which party they are from.

Support for no-fault divorce no surprise

John S. Gray’s apparent support of no-fault divorce and it’s destructive impact, negating the role of numerous fathers to mere visitors of their children doesn’t surprise me whatsoever.

Still waiting for a response from Fimian

I recently sent the Republican candidate for Virginia’s 11th District, Keith Fimian, a letter inquiring into his stance on social issues, which he had previously refused to comment on, going so far as to call them “irrelevant” to the 11th and his bid for it’s open congressional seat.

Chairman is doing an excellent job

I am offended by Gary Jacobsen’s July 22 article calling our county supervisors “devils” and suggesting citizens vote them out of office because the police chief was instructed to enforce the speed limit.
