A 16-year-old Lake Ridge boy was arrested for allegedly shooting at a man during an argument in a Potomac Mills mall parking lot Monday night.
Officers were called to the parking lot near the intersection of Smoketown Road and Nazarene Way in Woodbridge around 9:12 p.m., said Officer Erika Hernandez, Prince William police spokeswoman.
According to police, the 16-year-old shot at a 25-year-old Woodbridge man, who then returned fire.
Police said the argument started while the two, each passengers in separate vehicles, were at the stoplight at Smoke-town Road and Nazarene Way.
No one was injured during the incident, Hernandez said.
At least four shots were fired, police said.
The 16-year-old was, whose name was not released because he is a minor, was charged with attempted malicious wounding and reckless handling of a firearm, police said.
He was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center and will have a hearing in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
Police said the 25-year-old had a permit to carry a concealed weapon. The case is still under investigation.

Just an FYI…. Someone mentioned that the boy was probably a spoiled white kid… he wasn’t white, not that it really makes a difference. I do agree with the spoiled part. I saw a security guard get hit yesterday at Potomac Mills and when the guard stopped him he was screaming that he was being abused. He was real tough until he got caught and the police arrived. Oh well, I saw a movie and he went to jail.

Although video games have gotten more violent in recent years the rate of violent crime committed by those under the age of 18 has fallen compared to the early 90s. Don’t think all of us of the younger generation are like this, just because one young kid is misguided doesn’t mean it’s the video games or the parents, it’s just that kid. And he probably carried a gun because he thought it was a cool thing to do and wanted to show off in front his friends.

No, ( common sense ) I bet you, that this 16 year old kid is not what you said it is. I can almost guarantee is an ignorant white kid that never had any responsibilities, that is going around terrorizing citizens, if any thing he should stand trial as an adult and be charged for terrorism.

I think you miss understand. I do not believe that children that have responsible and caring parents are influenced by video games or shows. See they grasp the concept of reality and fiction. You need someone to blame for today’s children’s behavior well here is your blame Parents! Parents that are invovled and that care enough to interact with thier children dont seem to have the problem. This CHILD had to have a reason for the gun. Normal 16 year olds dont carry guns with them. I do get that gangs and unruly chidlren are a problem however where are the parents?

To khelean1974 you are the problem. I can’t believe that you make a statement like “the poor boy was scared or ill so he felt compelled to carry a gun” Boo Hoo Boo Hoo. Open your eyes not all but many of these little punks are just acting out their favorite gangsta videos. When is this country going to wake up a realize what our kids are exposed to on a daily basis. The next time you go for a drive look around you’ll see them leaning low hats turnded tattoos gangsta rap playing loud. Go buy yourself GRAND THEFT AUTO 4 Maybe then you undersatnd these punks better.

common sense??? do you have any??? This a situation where a 16 yr is a position where they are so lost that they feel carry a weapon is the answer. Do he have to protect himself from a gang or just antoher kid? Or was it mental illness? What caused this? You want to say something about illegal people?? You are a piece of work really good luck with the lack of sense that you have!

Now this goes to show, we do not need more guns off the street, but more of the lawless folks with guns off the street. We need to keep our right to defend ourselves against people like this
