Good morning Manassas and Manassas Park …
I hope everyone had a refreshing and relaxing Easter weekend with their loved ones. Here is what is going on in your neighborhood.
The Manassas City Council recognized April as Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Month and Child Abuse Prevention Month through a pair of proclamations during Monday’s regularly scheduled meeting.
There are 2,000 individuals in the Washington area that are need of a major organ donation and thousands more in need of a tissue transplant. Every day, 18 of the 100,000 people in the United States in need of an organ transplant die. Save7lives.org is a Web site for Manassas residents interested in being on Virginia’s online donor registry.
In fiscal 2007, 248 cases of suspected child abuse were reported in Manassas. Monday’s proclamation recognizes the efforts of individuals and organizations that work to break the cycle of child abuse.
Today, the Manassas Park City Council will meet with the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee at Park Place Senior Apartments. The council meets with the committee once a quarter.
On Wednesday, the Manassas City Council will have a budget work session. Family Services, Recreation and Parks, the Museum System, the Potomac & Rappahannock Transportation Commission will be presenting their respective budgets to council.
On Tuesday, April 1, the Manassas Park City Council will have a budget work session. Council is considering a 10-cent real estate tax rate increase for fiscal 2009. Currently, the tax rate is $1.14 per $100 of assessed value.
Have a bunch of old personal papers that need shredding? Have lots of old clothing, linens that aren’t good enough for donating? Replaced your old TV? Drop off all these items and more at the Manassas Transfer Station at 8305 Quarry Road on Saturday, April 5, from 8 a.m. to noon. This event is for Manassas residents and small businesses only. For small businesses, contact 703-257-8252.
