Good morning Manassas and Manassas Park ...
Here is what’s going on in your neighborhood.
Monday night was all about charity at the city council meeting. The council budgeted and appropriated $10,438 in donations for its animal shelter as well as $30,000 for the annual July 4 fireworks celebration.
The July 4 donation is an annual donation given anonymously. The council also budgeted and appropriated a $10,000 contribution from the Breeden Foundation to construct an handicap accessible restroom in the auxiliary building at Liberia Mansion.
Liberia Mansion is a former slave plantation built in 1825 off Portner Avenue.
The Voluntary Action Center held its annual Volunteer Recognition Event on Monday at the Loy E. Harris Pavilion in Old Town Manassas.
Created in 1981 and based in Manassas, the Voluntary Action Center is a unique referral service connecting volunteers with Prince William County’s diverse non-profit community.
The Voluntary Action Center offers a personalized experience for individuals seeking to become engaged through volunteerism.
The Manassas Park City Council is expected to approve the purchase of state championship rings for the Manassas Park High School Group A state championship wrestling team tonight at its regularly scheduled meeting.
Five individual wrestlers — Thien Tran, Maximo Gonzalez, Daniel McGillivray, Elmar Aparicio and Austin Wren — all won state titles in their respective weight classes as the Cougars won their fourth state title in the last five years.
Congratulations, Manassas Park wrestlers!
The Manassas Park City Council will also be voting on the recommendation of John Fraber, Martha Collier and Oscar Jamilla to the Board of Equalization.
The Board of Equalization is appointed by the local circuit court and one of its primary purposes is to ensure uniform property tax assessments.
