For her soccer teammates and team manager, Sara Lott will be remembered for the smile that was always on her face, her one-liners and a maturity far beyond her 12 years.
On Wednesday afternoon, Lott died following a near drowning Monday, Prince William County police said.
No one answered the door at the Lott residence Thursday afternoon.
Jodi Kestel, the manager of the travel soccer team Lott played for, described Lott as many things: An outstanding goalkeeper who seemed to be able to "grow six inches when need be," a great student—she was pre-aring to enter seventh grade at Saunders Middle School—and an "old soul."
"She was just an outstanding little girl, you just can't put it into words," Kestel said by phone Thursday. "It's just hard to say 'was.' "
While she was quiet, Kestel said she was always someone you could talk to.
"There was a comfort she had," Kestel said. And it was something Lott displayed on and off the field.
She never panicked when defending the goal and she could always be trusted to watch over the other girls when Kestel needed help.
Kestel's 12-year-old daughter Jordan and 12-year-old Brianna Aldo said they'll remember Lott, their teammate on The Junior Majestics 95 Elite, as a good friend.
On Monday, lifeguards pulled the girl from the pool at Lake Ridge Community Swim Club, said Officer Erika Hernandez, police spokeswoman.
Police and Fire and Rescue workers were called to the swim club at 12640 Harbor Drive in Lake Ridge at 7:20 p.m., Hernandez said.
The responding officer took over CPR until rescue personnel arrived, according to police.
Police said Lott was transported to Potomac Hospital and then flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital.
The medical examiner will conduct an external autopsy, authorities said.

I can remember the first time i ever met sara it was at a saunders girls basketball game and she was just so happy the whole time she had a smile on her face and she was so nice and funny.Everyday after that whenever i would see her in the hallways she had a big smile on her face. And you could always count on Sara to listen to any problems you may have and she would cheer you up and then the problem would go away. It’s gonna be really hard going back to school without Sara there and it will take a while to get over it but im glad that before she left this earth i met her or life would have been so different.
R.I.P Sara Lott

Well, I never really knew Sara personally, but I knew who she was. I saw her around Saunders all the time, and she always had a smile on her face no matter what. She looked like the type of girl who could just make your day in an instant. I think it’s very sad that she passed away, and even though I never knew her personally, I’m still going to miss her. I’m never going to see her in the hallways again, or ever get a chance to know her. But I do know that she is in a better place now, watching over all of us. I will be praying for all of her family and friends, and trying my best to help some of my friends who were her friends too, to get through the loss of such a wonderful girl. I made this in dedication to Sara Lott:

This is so sad. This family is in my constant thoughts and prayers. I am friends with Sara’s grandmother and my heart aches for her and Sara’s parents and brother. May the peace of God be with them as they grieve this horrible loss. -E

Sara was an awsome keeper in goal she probably does’nt even know who I am but I have played against her in soccer when I heard of her awful death from my Super Y teamates I felt very bad for her and her family. I will pray for her family and friends. :(
