A grease fire caused an estimated $100,000 worth of damage to a Woodbridge home Friday evening.
Two brothers bought the one-story house at 2354 West Longview Drive two weeks ago, said Mike Clark, assistant chief of the Occoquan-Woodbridge-Lorton Volunteer Fire Department.
They were cooking a few minutes before 7 p.m. when grease in a pan caught fire. They left the brick dwelling and moved a vehicle from the carport, Clark said. That turned out to be a good idea because the blaze spread there from inside the house.
Volunteer firefighters from Clark's squad and from the Dale City fire department responded to the scene and had the fire under control in about 15 minutes, the chief said.
There were no injuries reported, and there wasn't much in the house because the occupants were still moving in, Clark said.
"There's no furnishings in the house at all," he said as firefighters finished their work.
However, smoke and heat may have caused as much as $100,000 in damage, which Clark estimated was worth $250,000.
