Former teacher’s trial date set

An October trial date has been set for the former Manassas teacher accused of sexually assaulting three underage girls at his Stafford County home.

Ted Thomas Johnson, 48, of 3 Horsepen Run in Stafford, appeared in Stafford Circuit Court on Wednesday for an arraignment hearing.

Johnson is charged with aggravated sexual battery, two counts of attempted aggravated sexual battery, taking indecent liberties with a minor and two counts of attempted indecent liberties.

Johnson is set to stand trial on those charges before a jury in Stafford Circuit Court on Oct. 15, according to court records.

Johnson was arrested on Feb. 26 after a 13-year-old girl reported that Johnson attempted to sexually assault her while she was at his house on Feb. 18, officials from the Stafford County Sheriff's office said at the time.

Soon after that, two other girls, a 12-year-old and a 13-year-old, reported that Johnson had assaulted them as well.

The 12-year-old reported that Johnson assaulted her while she was at his house in June; the 13-year-old said he assaulted her at his house in September, officials said.

Johnson worked as a band teacher in Manassas City Public Schools for 20 years prior to his arrest on Feb. 28. Most recently he worked as a band teacher at Mayfield Intermediate School and at Osbourn High School and as Os-bourn's band director.

Johnson was placed on administrative leave at the time of his arrest and was barred from having any contact with students or access to school properties.

The three girls who reported the assaults were not Johnson's students and he is not accused of any crimes involving Manassas students.
