A group of about half a dozen pickets gathered in front of Chinn Park Regional Library on Tuesday evening to protest a Planned Parenthood meeting.

The protesters, many of whom held purple signs that said "Planned Parenthood Steals Souls," were protesting a Planned Parenthood volunteer training session being held inside

the library's community room.

"We're here to let people know that Planned Parenthood is not liked in the community," said Marie Hahnenberg, a researcher with American Life League, the group that organized the protest.

Planned Parenthood volunteers organizing the

training session said they had no comment on the protest.

Hahnenberg said the protesters were concerned that Planned Parenthood would be targeting young people in the training session.

According to a Web site for Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia, Tuesday's event was a training session for people interested in volunteering for Planned Parenthood events such as the Occoquan Riverfest, farmers' market and summer concerts.

The training session taught volunteers about the group's missions and services, its campaign for affordable birth control and specific volunteer opportunities, the Web site stated.

Hahnenberg said she and the other protesters were also concerned about Planned Parenthood meeting at the library.

"They should not be at a public library," she said.

According to the Prince William Public Library system's policy on public use of library community rooms, the library does not discriminate against individuals or groups for any reason, including "the political, religious, or social aims expressed by the individual or group, or by any group's members."

Any government agency or non-profit group can apply to use the meeting rooms, as long as the events are open to the public and no fundraising occurs, the policy states.

Brovo JVA!

Susan, have you not heard the term boys will be boys…  Think about it!  Hate to tell you, but picketing brought more attention to the fact that planned parenthood was in the building than they did themselves.  Thank You!!!

“Thes kids need to learn the word NO. “

Hey, I have an idea.  How about teaching YOUR Kids what you feel is appropriate, and I will teach MY kids what I think is appropriate and realistic.

I’m sure my parents didn’t want me having sex before I was married.  I can assure you that teenage hormones trumped any of their arguments.  I am extremely thankful that my parents provided me with the facts about and access to birth control when I was a teenager.

All of you are missing the issue.  You are giving young people instruments to have free sex.  My mother was an advocate for waiting until you are married. Planned Parenthood is NOT WELCOME in my community.  I have 4 sons and and they follow these same values.  Keep it up American Life League.  Thes kids need to learn the word NO.  For that matter the women that are out there continuing to reproduce without husbands!!

I like that Hahnenberg is concerned Planned Parenthood might be “targeting young people”.  We definitely don’t want any young people getting any crazy ideas about birth control.  Teen pregnancy rules!

Blue_Doggette, I think you made a great suggestion.  Its been a while since I gave any money to Planned Parenthood.  Today seems like a good day to make a donation.

Its about time planned parenthood joined our community.  I live in Dumfries and there are to many babies having babies arond here.  It is sad to see so many girls being left barefoot and pregnant in this county.  Thank you for your efforts to provide education and protection to the women in Prince William.

The irony here is that Planned Parenthood, by providing education and access to contraception, is doing more to prevent abortions than these protesters.

Since when is 6 people showing up a protest.  By that definition I had a protest last night in my yard over the lack of rain for my grass. Call me when you get a protest of at least 2 dozen people

Delegate Bob Marshall’s group, American Life League.  WEll bully for them.  Let them stand out there.  I am glad to see Planned Parenthood down here in Prince William.  I think I will send them a donation.  Thanks MJM for covering this story.  Readers should know about ALL’s agenda.  They are also opposed to birth control.
