Immigration alliance looks to Prince William as standard

Prince William County’s immigration policy is the “gold standard” from which other concerned jurisdictions should draw insight, said the president of a nonprofit group headquartered in Washington, D.C., that uses the courts to compel openness and transparency in governments.
“[The policy] looks to be progressing wonderfully,” said Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch, in an interview about his organization’s role in helping form a coalition against illegal immigration, and how Prince William has inspired that effort. “The laws are being enforced in Prince William County … and the goal is to mimic that regionally.”
Ten grass-root groups, including Help Save Manassas, joined forces and announced a few days ago the creation of the Capital Area Alliance Against Illegal Immigration.
“The Alliance opposes sanctuary policies and will work toward the elimination of all taxpayer funded programs, organizations, services and benefits utilized to encourage and sustain illegal immigration in the capital region,” a press release posted at the Judicial Watch site reads.
The Alliance members are American Border Patrol, Defend DC, Help Save Loudoun, Help Save Manassas, Help Save Maryland, Judicial Watch, Maryland Minuteman CDC, Save the Old Dominion, Vienna Citizens’ Coalition, and Virginia Minuteman CDC.
Help Save Manassas president Greg Letiecq described the idea behind the collaboration as akin to the principle that no man is an island.
“We know criminal illegal aliens don’t respect boundaries,” he said. “There’s a lot of instances where just fixing Prince William County isn’t all that needs to get done to protect the safety of Prince William residents. Obviously, we have to protect other areas.”
But Alanna Almeda, who just started a blog to counter immigration views put forth on Letiecq’s Web site – Almeda’s is the anti-Black Velvet Bruce Li to Letiecq’s longer-standing Black Velvet Bruce Li – sees racism at play and cautioned other jurisdictions against mimicking Prince William policy.
“It would be a grave mistake for any locality to follow what Prince William’s done,” Almeda said. “Prince William’s [policy has] given people a justification for their deep seeded racial feelings … and no, I don’t believe it has anything to do with the legality.”
Almeda said she doesn’t believe everyone who supported the Prince William immigration resolution was necessarily racist, but rather “misguided” and uninformed.
“Economically, this policy has been a disaster,” she said. “Look at the double digit housing loss. And socially, it’s been extremely divisive. It’s not been a success, it’s been a curse … and I think there’s a racial component.”
To Fitton, though, accusations of racism are just part and parcel of enforcing immigration law – expected attacks driven by special interests, he said.
“Prince William is the gold standard in terms of what communities need to be doing,” he said, adding that enforcement of illegal alien policy is sound law that also protects immigrants from violence that goes unreported within their communities. “But they’re being criticized by individuals and groups with specific agendas, and it’s usually outsiders.”
Meanwhile, at citizen’s time at Tuesday’s supervisor meeting, the immigration resolution and the ability of police to check the immigration status of those arrested for crimes were once again hot button topics for comment.
While plenty several spoke in support of funding the immigration policy in this year’s upcoming fiscal budget, several others asked the board to reconsider – in one instance, drawing parallels between the supervisors, their support of the resolution and the Ku Klux Klan, and in another, calling on the county to “welcome the sojourner” as “God’s judgment is upon us.”

AntiBVBL what is so out of control about enforcing the law? Chris Cummings

As a life long PWC resident I steadfastly reject being lumped in with some ‘majority’ of residents that want this resolution. I voted for Stewart last time around because of land-use issues but this whole anti-illegal mess has gotten completely out of control. Will someone please pull-in the reigns?

Hacenedb the few you speak of are in the majority in PWC and you will just have to deal with your twisted racial ploy and the fact that there are more sensible people here than you portray. End of the free ride is nearing. deal with it. Chris Cummings

PWC is hardly a ghost town. Wake up, Alanna! You and your liberal left cronies are a minute minority - and your arguments are without merit. The majority of the legal citizens of PWC want the resolution to restore our quality of life. The Capital Area Coalition will ensure that similar resolutions are enacted area-wide.

“Prince William’s [policy has] given people a justification for their deep seeded racial feelings …” This is not a false statement, it is the truth. When the interpretation of the law becomes the domain of vigilantes, the community must have a lot to worry about. The types of insults and hate going around are not the result of a myth. They are the outcome of an adroitly orchestrated campaign against anyone who dares criticize those who consider themselves flawless and above the law because they want to impose their views upon the community. Just remember that once unleashed, the power of hate and prejudice will be unstoppable. BOCS has acted under duress by putting the interest of the few above the general interest of the community at large. But now the elections are over. It is time for our elected representatives to abstain from receiving orders from a tiny group that has used fear and intimidation to occupy the vacuum left by those who swore to represent the whole community not only those who keep on shouting. Now is the golden time to reflect upon our excesses and to revisit the circumstances under which this resolution has seen the light of day. How do we expect PWC citizens to trust a group of people like HSM whose primary job is to make fun of non-European sounding names, put down minorities, and claim to be patriot at the expense of other citizens! PWC deserves better. I urge the community to wake up and to fight back. I personally lived in other countries and I have seen the danger of small groups who have espoused a cause only to start an organized process of attacks against the vulnerable, the weak, and the voiceless. Let’s remain united and reject any attempt to turn us off against each other! This is highly important when reason and diligence are in short supply. Edmond Burke reminds us all that: ‘All that is needed for evil to triumph is for good men to remain silent.’

The problem isn’t race. If the illegal immigrants were from Canada, Ireland, Germany or anywhere else I still would be opposed to people entering the country illegally. I think the problems caused by illegal immigration would be pretty much the same regardless of the country of origin. The immigration process (yes, there is a process and people do enter legally every year) should be the same for every one. The laws regarding immigration should be enforced equally regardless of from where an immigrant originates. Why should Hispanics or anyone else be exempt? Stop calling it racisim. It is law enforcement pure and simple that should have been handled better nationally so that local governments weren’t forced to take the lead. Want to immigrate or become a citizen? Great! Apply and get in line. There are others who are already in line and are showing from the start that they respect our laws.

“Capital Area Alliance Against Illegal Immigration.” Notice how it specifies ILLEGAL immigration. It doesn’t lump illegal aliens and legal immigrants into one mass like the special interests enjoy doing.
As a legal immigrant of Panama, illegal immigration is a slap in the face for those who patiently waited years to get into this Country.
By the way, couldn’t Alanna Almeda think of a more original name for her blog???

I have no problems with the ones that causes problems, but the father, mother, son and daughter to be deported just because they don’t have documents, how many times we break laws regardless of what law, after all we all are lawbreaker I guess, and the worst part is that the prince william county government wants to raise property taxes to fund this law which I don’t agree, can I be exempt from paying this taxes.

You had a community, know you have a ghost town. Now you want to extend this policy out to the greater metropolitan area? I would strongly recommend against any other local jurisdictions to try this. Better to wait and watch this thing play out before jumping into the same mess. Really PWC should have learned from Riverside New Jersey before venturing down this path.
