Top bakers …
Cindy Leach and Brian Shookster were the first place winners of the Cocoa Classic, an adult chocolate dessert contest and youth cookie/brownie/bar contest, conducted at the Prince William County Fair on Sunday.
Leach won the adult division with her Black Forest Mini-Cheesecakes and Shookster took first with his Chocolate Chip Brownies.
Other adult winners included Debbie Wood, second place with her Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip Pie and Theresa Faltinowski, third place with her Supreme Chocolate Saucepan Brownies. The second-place youth winner was Shannon Bowen with Butter Pecan Turtle Cookies. while Alexis Smith took third place in the youth division with Mint Fudge.
The chocolate contest is in its fourth year at the Fair and is co-sponsored by the American Red Cross — Prince William Chapter. Winning recipes are available on both the Fair Web site, http://www.pwcfair.com and the Red Cross at http://www.pwarc.org.
Duveen Winter, a sales representative of products helpful to those with vision loss, will present a review of products, both new and old, at the Monday meeting of the Manassas Area Low Vision Support Group. The meeting will be at noon at the Park West Lions Club headquarters, 8620 Sunnygate Drive. Manassas. For more information, call Nancy Cota at 703-368-1721.
The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (Manassas Chapter 356) will meet Aug. 20 at the Golden Corral Buffet and Grill, 10801 Bullock Drive, Manassas. Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. and the guest speaker, Kimberly K. Johnson, RN, a certified Apherisia (stem cell) specialist will speak on the Apherisia program.
