A Herndon man was killed this morning when he lost control of his car and hit a house.

Police were called to the area of Dranesville Road and Powell’s Tavern Place in Fairfax County, just before 2:30 a.m., after someone called and said a car had hit a fence.

When police arrived they saw the damaged fence but thought the driver ran off.

Fairfax police were called back to the same area just before 10 a.m. where they found the car that had crashed into the fence.

Police said the man was travelling north on Dranesville Road when he lost control of his 1997 Mazda and crossed into the southbound lanes. He then hit a curb, plowed through two fences and hit a house, located in the 3700 block of Rock Chapel Road.

No one was home at the time of the accident.

The 31-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have yet to release his identity.

Police are asking anyone with information on the accident to contact Crime Solvers, by visiting Fairfax Crime Solvers, or by calling 1-866-411-TIPS.
