The Manassas police said that a 15-year-old boy was injured Monday night trying to make a homemade smoke bomb, said Sgt. Tim Neumann, Manassas police spokesman.
The Manassas City Public Communications Center received a call about 7 p.m. from the Prince William Hospital reporting that a juvenile had come to the emergency room with burns to his face cause by a minor explosion and a flash fire, Neumann said.
Fire and rescue units were dispatched to the Osbourn High School student’s home to make sure everything was safe after the boy overheated chemicals on the kitchen stove and ignited the flash fire, Neumann said.
Manassas Fire Marshals executed a search warrant and seized chemicals and other potentially hazardous materials from the boy’s home, Neumann said.
Criminal charges have not been filed pending a review by the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office
