A Montclair man got a big-time boost this summer.
In late June, Jon Miller won $200,000 playing Powerball, said Vanessa E. Newton, a spokeswoman for the D.C. Lottery.
Miller buys tickets for two drawings once a week and got his winning ticket at the Key Bridge Exxon station in northwest Washington, D.C., a D.C. Lottery news release states.
"I used the Quick Check and couldn't believe that I had won. I told my brother, son, and daughter-in-law by e-mail and waited for them to tell my wife," Miller told D.C. Lottery when claiming his winnings on Sept. 30. "She was standing outside when I got home and asked if there was something that I forgot to tell her."
Miller, a Vietnam veteran who is retired from the Marine Corps, said he would spend some of the winnings taking a vacation with his wife, donating some to charity and also using the money to address medical needs, the news re-lease states.
"I'm going to go somewhere for one month and see if they can fix my body," D.C. Lottery quotes Miller as saying.
Miller declined to be
interviewed for this story.
There have been 10 Powerball winners to take home the $200,000 prize since January, Newton said.
