Fairfax County police have obtained an arrest warrant on a charge of murder for a 49-year-old man with apparent ties to Prince William County in connection with a homicide in Annandale, police said.
Authorities on Wednesday named Santos Ortez Sheffey, of no fixed address, as a suspect in the stabbing death of 46-year-old Sharon Harvin.
Fairfax police said a family member found Harvin dead inside her home on Indian Run Parkway about 11:45 p.m. Monday.
Sheffey and Harvin knew each other, but "do not know the nature of their relationship," according to a police news release.
Detectives also believe Sheffey has ties to Arlington, Prince William, Fairfax and Washington, D.C., the release states.
Police would not say what ties he has to those areas or what led them to Sheffey.
"I can't be any more specific at this time," said Officer Don Gotthardt, police spokesman. "Anything beyond what I've already put in that update would have a possibility of compromising the investigation."
The victim's 2006 Kia Amanti was found in the 2500 block of Shirlington Road in Arlington on Tuesday night.
"Working theory is that the suspect at some point fled the scene in that vehicle," Gotthardt said, adding that there is nothing that indicates at this time that Sheffey has left the area.
Police are asking that anyone with information about Sheffey is asked to contact Crime Solvers by phone at 1-866-411-TIPS, e-mail at http://www.fairfaxcrimesolvers.org, or text "TIP187" plus your message to CRIMES (274637), or call Fairfax County police at 703-691-2131.
