If you're looking for a refund from the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority, you're out of luck.
By next week, the agency will have sent all of the money to be refunded to different agencies throughout the state, said NVTA Executive Director John Mason.
Car inspection fee refunds are available through the Department of Treasury.
Vehicle registration fee refunds will come from the Department of Motor Vehicles.
Directions of how to find a refund of money paid since Jan. 1 can be found on the NVTA's web site, www.
thenovaauthority.com.
Recently the NVTA sent $43,020 in money to be refunded to the Department of Treasury.
Already $1.84 million has been sent to circuit courts, which should send grantors tax refunds to settlement agents, which will be responsible for sending refunds to home sellers.
Visit trs.virginia.gov to fill out a claim form to request refunds of taxes paid on car rentals, hotel stays, vehicle inspections or car repairs.
On Feb. 29, the Virginia Supreme Court ruled that the NVTA could not collect taxes, even though they had been approved by the Virginia General Assembly.
The General Assembly is expected to meet in a special transportation session later this year to discuss traffic in Northern Virginia.
Average commute times in Prince William County were ranked fifth-longest in the nation last year.
