MANASSAS, Va. (AP) _ Officials at the Prince William County jail say new local policies that require residency checks of inmates suspected of being in the country illegally have pushed crowding at the jail to an all-time high.
In recent letters to local officials and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, jail board Chairman Patrick Hurd said the new policies are straining jail employees and the jail is spending more than $220,000 per month to house prisoners elsewhere.
Under a partnership with ICE that began in July, local law enforcement officers get training in processing suspected illegal immigrants. ICE agents are supposed to pick up the suspects within 72 hours. Hurd, however, says agents are taking weeks to pick up the suspects.
ICE spokeswoman Ernestine Fobbs says the agency is pledging to step up its commitment

Phdee, actually the Resolution has helped clean up Manassas and will continue to help, the souring economy is only helping these illegals to move away or back home. Sorry Ray, taxpayers shouldn’t have to foot the bill to support someone who doesn’t belong here. Sorry Phdee why should the majority of county taxpayers have to put up with the antics of people that don’t pay income taxes, don’t respect the law, etc.etc. Jmolina then all communities should enact the PWC Resolution since it is obviously working taking into account all the pro illegal anymosity and racism directed at the majority of the county residents who want these criminals to leave post haste. what are we complaining about now? jails overcrowded? not enough money from taxpayers to pay the bill? I just can’t stop laughing about all this “illegal immigration issue” what are the feds thinking of PWC? well, they think that every citizen of PWC should take the burden while they sit in their burocratic chair doing nothing.
let’s be realistic about this issue, illegal alliens are just getting a free ride home because we have to pay for their trip, after a while they will cross the border again and live in some other part of the US. they’ll thank you!

JReynolds i was mistaken you are incorrect when you say Letieq helped coauthor, however HSM has no say in the enforcement of the Resolution. If i am incorreect please send me a link that says he did. That was what i meant to say. Stirrup authored the Resolution Letieq just wholeheartedly supported it. Chris Cummings

ZCX, get real. The resolution has all but destroyed manassas. Look at the number of foreclosures, drop in sales tax, declines in business activity, legsals leaving the county (yes, they paid taxes), etc. Let’s put the blame squarely where it belongs: HSM, Letiecq, BOCS, and a minority of racist yelpers.

Barnum without illegals there would be no costs, you say? Without American crime, there would be no costs for food stamps, schools, unemployment, social services, welfare, medical care, tax breaks, etc etc. Get real. A dumb statement.

KG, i thought we just treated them like anyone else that is somewhere they are not legally allowed to be. convicts are not legally allowed beyond the prison borders and would be arrested. Lack of immigration enforcement means that trespassing is not a valid offense. Can we now tell ALL US citizens to ignore No tresspassing areas ? What about prisoners, should they be free to roam beyond the prison borders ? They are only in prison because they’ve broken a law.

Kgotthardt how are we treating these criminals like POW’s? Please explain??? Criminals need to be fined and or jailed, deported, etc. After all that is the law. Chris Cummings

kgot, I’m on your side. Until these issues are resolved and funding provided - issue Documented Illegal papers so we know who’s here, can collect proper payroll taxes, get them a frickin drivers license WITH insurance, and provide some classes or workshops on how to ‘properly’ live in our neighborhoods as “guests of our community”. Meaning, If you come to my house, I expect you to honor my house rules and not be rude. But, easier to be stubborn and complain I guess.

Ray, you are quite right about sealing the borders. That doesn’t mean, however, we treat the people who are already here like they are POW’s or worse…and that is exactly what we are doing.
