Dear Lane Ranger,
The commuter lot at U.S. 1 and Va. 234 is simply unsafe! Cars, trucks and vans are parking on the hill on the eastern side of the lot — many at greater than a 45-degree angle. All it would take is for one of these cars to have a brake failure for a catastrophe to occur, if not a fatality! Enough is enough! This lot has outlived its size for years. When will the lot be expanded?

Dear Steve and Carleen,
In 2006, the Prince William County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution to fund the $6 million expansion of the commuter lot at Va. 234 and U.S. 1. Under the agreement, Prince William is to fund all construction costs for the lot and then be reimbursed in full by the Virginia Department of Transportation. Mike Salmon, VDOT spokesman, said the expansion of the lot is still scheduled; they are just waiting for the county to proceed. More information about the expansion of the lot will be in my column next week.
