Area transit riders already exchanged nearly $200,000 from bus tokens to SmarTrip cards as the deadline to ex-change tokens approaches.
The Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission has been accepting SmarTrip cards since March.
This weekend ends the period when bus riders can exchange bus tokens.
The final day to exchange tokens is Saturday when the PRTC headquarters lobby will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There is no limit on the amount of tokens that can be exchanged on the final day.
The token exchange started on April 14.
Since then, customers have exchanged $192,791 onto SmarTrip cards, said Christine Rodridgo, PRTC spokes-woman.
She said the values of unused tokens will be applied to SmarTrip cards and there is no cash refund for tokens, which cannot be exchanged on the buses.
Through Saturday, PRTC will allow customers to exchange tokens from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the office.
The PRTC Transit Center is at 14700 Potomac Mills Road, Woodbridge, at the intersection of Potomac Mills and Telegraph Roads.
