ALMOUTH — The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the rape of a 17-year-old girl in the Falmouth area.

The incident happened on Tuesday afternoon between 3 and 5 p.m., on Indian Wood Lane, according to Bill Kennedy, spokesman for the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office. Police said the unidentified victim was taking out the garbage at her home when a young male wearing a black ski mask and black clothing attacked her. The victim went on to describe the man as being 5 feet 10 inches, 140 to 150 pounds and was wearing gloves, according to police.

Kennedy said the garage door at the home was closed at the time of the attack.

The victim said that just four days prior to the attack, the same person approached her outside of her home and attempted to rob her. Police said while the girl was again taking out the trash, the suspect demanded money from her. Police said this incident occurred in the yard of the home. She was able to hit the suspect with her elbow and run back inside the house, she told police.

Kennedy said that the incident was not reported to his office until Sunday, nearly two days after. Police said the girl feared for both her safety and the safety of her family and did not immediately report the crime. The rape was reported immediately after it happened.

Sheriff’s deputies were in the neighborhood where the crime occurred until 6 p.m. on Thursday, distributing fliers describing the attacker. Police would not say if they have increased patrols in the area, but did say the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information on this crime is encouraged to call Stafford County Crime Solvers at (540) 659-2020, or the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office at (540) 658-4450.

Please Note !

Crime knows no time of day.

There is no such thing as a safe neighborhood.

No safe times or places.

If you are a victim of even a minor crime, report it to the Police and alert your neighbors.

My thoughts and prayers go out to this young lady.
