A Woodbridge man charged with setting fire to a mobile home in April waived his right to a preliminary hearing in Prince William General District Court on Wednesday.
Atilano Santos-Sampayo, 36, of 13950 Jefferson Davis Highway, Lot 55, waived his right to a hearing on charges of arson and burglary.
Those charges will be sent to the grand jury in Prince William Circuit Court on June 2.
Prosecutors dropped the six other charges against Santos-Sampayo: one count of assault and five counts of attempted malicious wounding.
Santos-Sampayo is accused of setting fire to a trailer in the Marumsco Hills Mobile Home Park on U.S. 1 on April 13, severely burning a 35-year-old man inside the mobile home.
Santos-Sampayo and another man got into a fight at a party at one of the trailers, police said at the time.
Santos-Sampayo was asked to leave the party and did, but then came back, forced his way into the trailer and set it on fire, police said.
Several other men were inside the trailer at the time, but were able to escape uninjured, police said at the time. The other men were also able to get the burn victim out of the trailer.
If the grand jury indicts Santos-Sampayo, a trial date will be set in Prince William Circuit Court.
If convicted of arson, he faces a minimum of five years and up to life in prison. The burglary charge is punishable by five to 20 years in prison.
