The Quantico Marines Corps base will begin the construction of a new hydraulic in-ground vehicle barrier system at its main gate on Thursday and alter its traffic patterns.
For roughly the next two months as construction is underway, the main gate will be limited to only one lane of traffic.
Gate hours will remain the same. However, the following restrictions will apply on weekdays: Only inbound traffic will be allowed through the main gate in Triangle from 5 to 9 a.m.; all outbound traffic will be required to use the golf course gate onto Fuller Heights Road or the back gate on Russell Road during these times.
Additionally, only outbound traffic will be allowed through the main gate from 3 to 6 p.m. All inbound traffic will be required to use the golf course gate or back gate during these times.
During all other hours, traffic will alternate between inbound and outbound motorists.
After the barriers are installed at the main gate, work will begin to install the barrier system at the back gate.
Base military police will manage traffic flow to minimize delays, according to the Quantico Public Affairs Of-fice.
Upon installation, the new wedge-shaped barriers will be able to stop any moving vehicle when in the deployed or "up" position. When the barriers are down, they will be flush with the roadway.
