A teenage girl and a 63-year-old man were hospitalized Friday night following a head-on collision between an SUV and a car in the Hoadly area, Prince William County police said.

Around 4:23 p.m., a 2000 Nissan Xterra traveling south on Purcell Road crossed the yellow lines near Token Forest Drive and collided with a 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo driven by a Manassas girl, said Officer Erika Hernandez, police spokesman.

The driver of the SUV, Daniel F. Amedekey of Rhode Island Drive in Dale City, and the girl were flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital with non life-threatening injuries, Hernandez said.

Police charged Amedekey with reckless driving, Hernandez said. He was issued a summons and has a scheduled court date of Sept. 2.

Amedekey was expected to be released from the hospital today, police said. The girl, who police did not identify, will require surgery on her ankle and a release date is not known, Hernandez said.

It is unknown why the SUV crossed into oncoming traffic, police said.

It was the second serious wreck to occur in that area this week.

Around 6:47 p.m. Tuesday, 13-year-old Prabhdeep Ranahawa of Dale City was struck by a 2003 BMW and killed while apparently crossing Hoadly Road near Olivewood Drive on his bicycle, police said.

Charges have not been filed against the driver of the BMW, identified as a 61-year-old Manassas woman, Hernan-dez said. The crash is still under investigation.

Ooh, Alanna, I’m shaking. There’s a convenient little button called “Report Inappropriate Comment.” Go ahead and click it if you so desire. I have to wonder if you would have still replied to me if I didn’t mention illegal aliens. Yellow double lines are fairly conspicuous on a roadway. Driving skills a little rusty? Set up a few cones in an empty lot and bring a friend to critique your road-handling skills. DMV has free quizzes online. Remember kids, yellow on the left, white on the right. Did this guy think he was in Europe? Thank God I drive a 3-ton diesel-guzzling monster. Look for an Earnie strapped to the grille. He lets me know where the trouble’s at.

Anny,

It’s my understanding they used the “jaws of life” to extricate this girl and last I heard she’s still hospitalized.  Nothing about this situation is or could be ‘funny’, it’s tragic and your comments are callous.  Her & her family are valued members of our community!  Shame on you.

Actually, Amedekey is an African name from Ghana.  Does THAT make it funnier for you?  Dang Caucasians!!!!!!!

JoeDaBeast, there is no indication of race in this article. It would, however, be even funnier if an illegal alien was caught driving.
