Prince William police reported that two people were flown to area hospitals after two separate accidents on Monday.
A 2009 BMW 650 GS motorcycle that was stopped at the intersection of the Prince William Parkway and Balls Ford Road was rear-ended by a 1998 Ford Explorer at about 6:03 a.m., said Officer Erika Hernandez, Prince William police spokeswoman.
The motorcycle was thrown from the bike that slid into a 2001 Saturn, SC2 that was stopped in front it, Hernandez said.
The Explorer swerved to the left, struck the curb of the median and flipped at least once, Hernandez said.
The 28-year-man who was thrown from the BMW was flown to an area hospital with severe injuries, Hernandez said.
The driver of the Explorer was identified as Greylin Leroy Thomas, 53, of 6635 Roderick Loop in Gainesville.
He was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.
Thomas was charged with reckless driving. He was released on a summons and is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 28, Hernandez said.
The 43-year-old Front Royal man who was driving the Saturn was not injured in the crash.
At about 10:35 a.m. police responded to a two-car collision at the intersection of Jefferson Davis Highway and Opitz Boulevard, Hernandez said.
A 2001, Toyota Corolla, was traveling northbound on Jefferson Davis Highway and attempted to make a left turn onto Opitz Boulevard when it collided with a 1999, Mercury Sable that was traveling south on Jefferson Davis Highway, Hernandez said.
The 79-year-old Woodbridge woman who was driving the Corolla was taken to a local hospital, but was later flown to an area hospital.
The 39-year-old Woodbridge woman who was driving the Sable was treated for minor injuries at the scene, Hernandez said.
Police are still investigating the accident.
