Prince William police have arrested the driver of a BMW involved in a late July collision that left a 13-year-old Dale City boy dead, police spokeswoman Sharon Richardson said.
Marilyn J. Freeman, 61, of 8129 King Arthurs Court in the Manassas area, was charged with reckless driving/failure to maintain control following a nearly month-long investigation that included multiple witness interviews and a reconstruction of the scene, Richardson said.
The incident occurred around 6:45 p.m. July 29 when police say a blue 2003 BMW 320i struck Prabhdeep Ranahawa, who was riding his bicycle on Hoadly Road near Olivewood Drive. He died at the scene.
Police initially said that it appeared he was crossing Hoadly Road at the time, but the investigation revealed Ranahawa was bicycling on the shoulder near the edge of the travel lane, Richardson said.
Freeman was released on an unsecured bond and has a scheduled court date on Oct. 16.

Any grown woman that grossly exceeds the speed limit, “takes her eyes off the road” (your words), and kills small children is an absolute and real menace to society. Hoadly Road is a daily joke with how fast people drive on it and it is thanks to grown people like this. That little kid did not deserve to die. Hard jail time is appropriate for this menace’s behavior.

I’m sorry, I don’t disagree that this woman is a menace. It isn’t just the “accident”, she DROVE OFF and forced police to search for her for the past month! This poor child was killed, his family put through hell and our tax payer dollars WASTED because a grown woman couldn’t step up and own up to what she had done. For all we know she could have saved his life by stopping. What makes a person think that calling something an “accident” excuses you from killing another human being? Why should she be allowed to continue on as if nothing has happened while a family buries their son?

glad the police got her off the streets, dont know how many more kids she was going to hit and kill. Maybe she planned this and glad she couldn’t do it again. Serial-killer, huh?
that is the stupidest post i have seen in a long time. Probably what happen, is she took her eyes off the road for a second and hit the kid. It was an accident, and yes she should get sometime in jail. But you stating that she a real menace to society, get real.

Good! But it is a shame they didn’t charge her with vehicular homicide. This person is a real menace society; running down and killing children on the side of the road. She needs to feel the full consequences of her anti-social behavior and serve hard prison time.
