Good morning Manassas and Manassas Park ...

Here is what’s happening in your neighborhood.

Monday night was the last Manassas City Council meeting before a scheduled summer recess. The next meeting will be Sept. 8.

Linda Robertson stepped down as the Executive Director of Historic Manassas Inc. late last month.

Robertson, who worked as the general manager for the Loy E. Harris Pavilion for three years before becoming HMI executive director, said she quit to find a job closer to her home in Culpeper.

Former Eli Lilly spokesperson Patty Tracy took over for Robertson as interim executive director.

Earlier this year, HMI board of directors president Alice Jones resigned for personal reasons. Creston Owens, the owner of Manassas-based Falcon Communications Solutions, took over for Jones.

HMI is a partially city-funded non profit organization that runs the Visitors Center, promotes Old Town and organizes many of the city’s annual special events.

The city of Manassas Park will begin its Mosquito Control program this week. Citywide truck-mounted spraying will start Thursday after 10 p.m. and run through Friday.

If you wish to be excluded from the August spraying, please contact Public Works at 703-335-8686 no later than today.

The Virginia Railway Express/City of Manassas parking deck is nearing completion and could be open as early as next Monday, said VRE spokesperson Mark Roeber.

The opening of the five-level commuter and visitor garage located on Prince William Street has been delayed a few weeks due to minor issues with the elevators and handrails, said Roeber.

The garage will hold 432 spaces with the first three levels dedicated to commuters and the top two levels for Old Town visitors.
