Old-fashioned 4th of July celebration

An old-fashioned Fourth of July celebration is planned for Battle Street in Old Town Manassas, complete with music, fun and food on Friday.

Hot dogs, cotton candy, popcorn, ice cream and lemonade will be available.

Starting at 4 pm. and going until 9 p.m. there will be games for everyone, including a pie eating contest, dance contest, watermelon eating contest and more. The contests start at 6 and end at 8 p.m.

The street will be fined with music by DJ—Super Dave Karoke.

Participating in the festivities will be Old Town Sweet Shoppe, Java-Roos Coffee & Gifts and Whimsical Galerie.

Participating merchants providing door prizes for the event include Opera House Gourmet, Old Town Sweet Shoppe, Philadelphia Tavern, Foster's Grill, Piccolino Italian Restaurant, Mackey's Restaurant, City Square Café, Okra's Restaurant, Subway, Manassas Clay, Deli Depot, Java-Roo Coffee House, Tings I Love and Curves Hair Salon.

This is the third year for the festivities on Battle Street and promise to be the largest to date.

The festivities will close out just in time for the fireworks display that begins at 9:15. Other activities are planned by Historic Manassas, Inc.
