Use the American Legion Bridge overnight Saturday to avoid major delays in Maryland.
Crews are going to shut down the inner and outer loops of the Capital Beltway in Maryland and closures are expected to last up to 17 hours.
At 8 p.m. Saturday road crews will shut down Interstate 95 southbound just north of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge at Branch Avenue, according to the Maryland Highway Administration.
Traffic on the outer loop in the same area is going to be limited to two through lanes then shut down completely by 10 p.m.
Traffic will be detoured to Branch Avenue until late morning hours or afternoon on Sunday.
The contractor has a permit to keep the lanes closed until 1 p.m. Sunday.
Crews will also shut down two lanes of the outer loop on I-95 northbound starting at 8 p.m. Saturday.
Construction is part of Maryland’s $52 million interchange at Branch Avenue/MD 5.
Crews are going to lift 12 twenty-ton, curved steel beams over the interstate as part of a flyover ramp. Massive cranes will be placed on the travel lanes to move the beams.
Detour details: Southbound motorists will be detoured to a double-left turn onto Auth Road, across the MD 5 intersection and back to southbound I-95.
Northbound Traffic will be diverted onto the ramp to southbound Branch Avenue to Allentown Road to the I-95/MD 337 interchange, where motorists can access northbound I-95.
