An interfaith organization will discuss tax increase effects on middle- and low-income families when it releases a transportation funding report on Thursday morning.
Michael Cassidy, executive director of the Commonwealth Institute for Fiscal Analysis will present the report's details in Richmond, said Patrick Getlein, the group's spokesman.
The institute is a program of the Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy, an advocacy organization for Christian, Jewish and Muslim groups.
Cassidy will discuss how different proposals to raise money for transportation will treat different families disparately, Getlein said.
Legislators have floated various ways to fund transportation in Virginia, including raising a sales tax on gasoline since Gov. Timothy M. Kaine said he could announce a special session on transportation later this year.
Getlein said the press conference will be held at 11 a.m. today at the General Assembly Building in Richmond.

You are right kgotthardt raising taxes on middle to working classes and the poor constantly to pay for increasing costs of social services abused by those who can’t legally have them is the proper way. Once again, Kgotthardt you are definitely no math genius. Chris Cummings

I will never understand why government thinks lowering taxes will help the middle to working classes and the poor. If you save two dollars on your taxes but lose thirty dollars of your food stamp money because the program gets cut, you still starve. Once again, I’m no math genius, but.......
