Work on Dale Boulevard should be done by end of May

Road crews that have been working 12-hour days secured gas and water lines running under Dale Boulevard this weekend.

The Virginia Department of Transportation workers are on schedule for reopening Dale Boulevard by sometime during the last week of May, said Mike Salmon, VDOT spokesman.

A water line was bowed from losing its supporting soil during a May 12 storm. American Water Company crews helped VDOT to secure that water main over the weekend, officials said.

Salmon said work should be completed by the end of the month, although no exact date has been determined yet.

Other utilities such as electricity and fiber optic lines also run under Dale Boulevard.

No cost estimate for the repairs has been determined at this time.
