One of the great things about Manassas is that though it continues to grow and resemble a more metropolitan area, it maintains the ties of a small, close-knit community.
Many in this community have lived here their whole lives, and they can still go to stores around the area and bump into people they have known for years.
Manassas celebrates its community with a plethora of get togethers. The latest one, coming up on Saturday, is the Manassas African American Heritage Day Festival. Don’t miss it.
From noon until 6 p.m. on the parking lot of Grace E. Metz Middle School on Wellington Road, people will gather to enjoy the day.
There will be a variety of food and craft vendors and educational and family activities for everybody. Step dancing, story telling, cars on display, music and more will provide entertainment for the crowd.
Modern culture has become more isolated with people spending less and less time with their fellow human beings. But in Manassas, there is every opportunity to buck that trend and get to know the
people who make up the community in which we live.
Come out to the Manassas African American Heritage Day Festival on Saturday and join your community.

For a southern city, Manassas doesn’t have many blacks. Anyway, Manassas is a dying city that HSM, Letiecq, and the PWC BOCS have helped to kill off.
