Spring renewal

OUR OPINION

Already, the spring temperatures are being felt and soon, the dreary cold days of winter will be but a distant memory.
Spring is a time of renewal and growth, both in nature and in everyday life.
Manassas, Manassas Park and Prince William County are struggling with setting their next budgets.
Manassas is preparing for its spring elections, which will determine what new members will be coming aboard and which old members will be leaving.
Right now, it looks like a few major changes could be felt on the council.
It is certain that the mayor, Douglas Waldron, will be stepping down. The current vice mayor, Harry J. “Hal” Parrish II, is vying to take his place.
Newcomer Mark Wolfe could be taking the seat that Parrish is leaving behind.
And incumbents Steve Smith and Jonathan Way could be poised to win another term on the council, which means we might be seeing their faces for some time to come.
Of course, this is all a fait accompli unless the Democrats choose some opposition candidates or unless independents step forward by April 7 — the deadline to register to run for the May 6 election.
As the government prepares for its changes, the rest of us are preparing for the upcoming summer — complete with vacations — and are looking forward to rosier economic forecasts and an improving housing market — fingers crossed.
The Prince William County area has been a hotbed of controversy for the past year, with antagonistic elections, illegal immigration arguments and budget woes.
Now is the time for us to put all of that behind us and to focus on the common good; lets starts focusing on bringing our community together and making it the idyllic place we want it to be. Spring is a time of renewal. Let us renew ourselves.

It would be interesting to know if Ms. E.J. Scott, the chair of the Manassas Dem. Committee actually tried to recruit anyone for these positions. From what I hear the Manassas Dems have not run a single candidate in years for any office besides Jeanette Rishell in the 50th District.
