The News & Messenger, “Our View” of July 1 provided some unintended insight regarding the paper. 

I was surprised the News & Messenger would headline a recent “study” by F.A.I.R. on the costs of undocumented immigrants in Virginia (June 25). 

I am writing because of my Christian belief of the critically important nature of what follows, namely, a request that anybody who is willing participate in Family Research Council’s (FRC) upcoming prayer initiative: “Call 2 Fall,” scheduled for July 5.

On behalf of the Prince William County–Greater Manassas Chamber of Commerce, we would like to congratulate Sheryl L. Bass for her recent appointment to the Manassas City Council.

You may recall the speculation in the newspapers earlier this year about the average Prince William taxpayer paying $400-$500 less on his or her real estate tax bill in 2009.

Barbara Dodge got some of her facts wrong in her June 26 letter in the News & Messenger.

Recently Bob Allen of Manassas was kind enough to ask in a letter to the editor what John Bell has done for his community and his country.

I support the passage of HR 778. I believe that the freedom to consume raw milk should be protected, along with the other freedoms that we cherish as Americans.

Congratulations to Virginia Del. Bob Marshall.

Why aren’t Americans wearing green bands on their arms or in any other way showing support to the demonstrators who risk their lives on the streets in Tehran?

This is in response to “A ‘word’ to the wise,” Senior Heritage, by Dene Nichols.

According to Heritage Foundation, the National Black Chamber of Commerce and the Brookings Institution:

Ms. Fry poses an excellent question regarding the Democratic candidate for office, Mr. Torian, and the non-availability of information regarding his educational or military background (“What is Torian’s background,” News & Messenger, June 21).

I want to say thank you to all the volunteer and paid firemen and women for their heroic work recently and everyday.

Though much discussion has abounded on the news article regarding the duck that was shot to death, let’s consider the story in a wider scope.

In response to Mr. Casula’s letter of June 18, it’s a shame that letters in support of political candidates now consist of little more than copy-and-paste from the Web sites of those candidates.

Will the opponents of Del. Bob Marshall please tell us what their Democratic candidate has actually done for our local community as a private citizen rather than continue to make preposterous claims about Bob Marshall’s transportation record?

In regard to the recent shooting of ducks, a News and Messenger editorial attacks the gun — and basically gives the user of the gun a pass. 

There they go again! Those wily Democrats have gone and put extremely talented, progressive candidates who care about people on the upcoming November 3 ballot.

The Prince William County library system is a truly exceptional resource. An important part of what makes it so is its staff and volunteers.

Wow, wouldn’t it be wonderful if the American people showed the same zeal for fair elections as the Iranian people.

In response to the recent letter from a supporter of Bob Marshall’s opponent, the reason Bob is not currently a committee chairman is because he is not a “go along to get along” politician.

I want to talk about the “greed factor” of our local government here in Prince William County.

Last week a letter indicated that the Prince William Board of County Supervisors had violated the American with Disabilities Act by eliminating daily transportation service to the Senior Centers and Adult Day Care Center.

I feel compelled to add a few bits to the delightful tongue-in-cheek commentary by Mr. Arnaiz on his heart attack experience and his cardiac rehabilitation.

I have had four children in the Prince William County school system for more than 20 years and we have been blessed to have come in contact with many wonderful teachers through the years (you know who you are).

I have a question for the News & Messenger.
