Complexities of economic woes

The global economy is experiencing massive perturbations. There are numerous and complex reasons for this.

Don’t undermine your own resolution

I expected interest groups that aide illegal behavior to use the county’s budget deliberations to undermine support for the illegal alien enforcement initiative, but I did not expect members of the County Board of Supervisors to join them.

Praise for anti-illegal immigration resolution

I’m writing in response to a letter from Gregg White. In your letter you stated that you were sitting in the drive through of your bank when you witnessed a PWC police officer doing his job.

Celebrating our diversity as a people

We are the world, young and old, born and unborn.

Key to the vitality of county area

Travel and tourism is vital to the prosperity of Prince William County/Manassas, Virginia.

On the anti-illegal immigration resolution

There seem to be some varying opinions among our county supervisors on what are the effects of the resolution on businesses coming to the county and on the perception of people outside the county on whether our county is racist.

Frederick supports West for Dumfries

I’m privileged to represent the Town of Dumfries in the House of Delegates, and I’ve enjoyed working with the town’s leadership during my time in office to make Dumfries a better place to live, work and raise a family.

What were the editors thinking?

Page A1 on Sunday had an article about the Virginia Tech shootings, “Are we able to stop campus killers?” by Rex Bowman and Michael Martz). Certainly good food for thought on the first anniversary of the rampage.

Writer bemoans lack of constituent service

As a Coles District resident, I supported Marty Nohe for supervisor when he ran for office more than four years ago and again last November.

Tips on what one person can do

In response to George Kraus’ letter “Questioning the people we choose to mourn” — I belong to Weems Neighborhood Watch. I walk daily past a memorial to Victor Moreno Orosco near the spot where he died. I also walk past Landgreen Street where Khawaja Ahmed was killed in February.

When in Manassas, watch your speed

For the nearly eight years I have resided in Manassas, I have endured the disregard of motorists who ignore the posted speed limit of 25 mph and treat residential streets as if they are motor speedways.

Quality credentials for council member

Nancy West has excellent qualifications for a seat on the Dumfries Town Council.

People intent on defying our laws

This letter is written in response to the Potomac News, op-ed piece of April 12, “Making things worse.”

To the citizens of the City of Manassas

The Greater Manassas Volunteer Rescue Squad is experiencing a period of transition.

Writer adds thoughts on the abortion issue

The abortion issue has been tallied about in the Potomac News by readers submitting their thoughts on the subject. I thought I’d add my own.

Exploring the stories behind the numbers

Cliff Adelman, researcher for the Institute for Higher Education Policy, distinguished himself by putting faces to stats. He didn’t just report data. He told the stories behind the numbers.

What about separation of church and state?

An article appearing on the front page of the Washington Times (March 30) reads in part, “The splashy April 16th party — in celebration of the Pope turning 81 — is sponsored by the eight former and current U. S.Ambassadors to the Vatican. Several hundred people are invited.”

Where are the great leaders of yesteryear?

This is an exciting time for United States’ citizens. There is the possibility of electing our first female for president or a black American or a brave war hero!

Resolution is not responsible for arrests

In an April 11 letter to the editor, David Lee attributes the arrest of 41 undocumented residents to the Prince William County resolution.

Perhaps we need a new vote on resolution

Since there have been many new concerns over the way Prince William County has handled the so called immigration crackdown I suggest that the residents push for a new vote on the resolution and not just the people on the board.

We need an animal advisory committee

Prince William County has many issues when it comes to animal welfare: a county shelter that is overrun with 8,000 animals a year, no low cost spay/neuter options, no humane education in our community and no dog parks for county residents.

Writer says delegate oblivious to the record

The latest partisan screed of Del. L. Scott Lingamfelter, R-Prince William, “Moderate Democrats reveal their liberal agenda” demonstrates that he is very familiar with right-wing clichés, but is oblivious to his own record.

Arrogant? Maybe, but Obama knows his stuff

Finally, the first legitimate criticism of Barack Obama.

No trespassing on private property

I agree with Catherine Maddox and her April 12 letter to the editor.

Writer observes anti-illegal hypocrisy

Am I the only person who notices the hypocrisy of the “illegal is illegal” anti-immigration crowd?

Divisiveness of illegal immigration issue

One need only read the letters to the editor to see the level of divisiveness the illegal immigration issue has brought to the county.
