All people should be cared for in America

Recent events have caused many to start asking — Who are these “Brown” people and why are they here?

Standing up for our aging population

There is $800,000 in a contingency fund that could be used to fund the $233,000 Manassas Senior Day Program today if the top officials in our Prince William County government desired to do so.

Paper perpetuates a false smear

I have read some ridiculous letters in your newspaper lately regarding Barrack Obama. But a recent letter from A. Vic Poillucci just might take the cake.

Supervisors should respect their elders

Why do the Supervisors feel the eastern end of the county is more worthy than those of the Western end? We are the western end, not the WEALTHY end.

Chuck Colgan breaks his promise

In last fall’s election, “I DO NOT SUPPORT any increase in the gas tax” was how Chuck Colgan “set the record straight” during his re-election campaign for the Virginia Senate seat that represents most of Prince William County.

Fair and equitable distribution of money?

Why should Northern Virginia counties get $150 million transportation dollars to Hampton Roads $300 million dollars? How does our state determine what the fair and equitable distribution of transportation dollars is?

See ya in the pits at the Old Dominion Speedway

Mr. Brothers III, as a local, an employee of Old Dominion Speedway. I only wish when shown your future home that you had taken the time to drive around the community, or perhaps the sellers had the foresight to mention the track.

Salmonella doesn’t come from tomatoes!

I can save health officials — who are still trying to pinpoint the exact cause of the recent salmonella outbreak that has sickened more than 800 people in 36 states — both time and money. It’s the meat, stupid!

Unfair taxation in Prince William County

Why is it that I’m paying more than one third in real estate tax on a home that my dad built and paid for debt free (including the land) at about $9,800 back in 1957? Keep in mind there has been no added structure to the home.

Where are all the numbers now?

Remember all the media hype about record numbers of democratic voter turnout for the primaries?

On Barack Obama and patriotism

Much has been written, in the columns of this paper,  regarding how one displays patriotism, especially those who wear a lapel pin — or in the case of the presidential candidate, Mr. Obama, the lack of one. This entire thing is nonsense.

No desire for your sympathy or respect

People seem to never get tired of blaming illegal immigrants for their personal lives just because they can’t make ends meet.

The U.S. should not follow Europe’s path

Recently the European Union made a legal decision to detain illegal immigrants for up to 18 months before deporting them.

Another type of ‘illegal’ overlooked

Year after year, several evenings a week from March to October, Prince William County refuses to enforce its own laws.

All transit options should be on the table

I submitted a Joint Resolution during the 2008 General Assembly session to study the costs, benefits and impacts of bringing Metro to Woodbridge and Potomac Mills.

The chance to help hard-working people

If ever there was an opportunity for Delegates Frederick and Lingamelter to represent and support their constituents in Eastern Prince William County — the families and hard working people of Woodbridge and Dale City, NOW is the time.

What a parade on the Fourth of July

For months the Dale City Civic Association Parade Committee planned, staffed, organized, directed and controlled the creation of this beautiful display of Americana.

Just a touch of political humor

Mr. Powell, my Letter to the Editor was meant to be sarcastic (Webster’s Online Dictionary defines that as meaning to make fun of something or somebody.).

A new low for Charles Reichley

Seldom do I agree with Potomac News columnist Charles Reichley, but I found his column “Questioning patriotism” (Potomac News, July 3) particularly shallow and partisan.

A new drug danger in our neighborhoods

You probably believe that your kids aren’t abusing drugs.  I’ve got news for some of you.  They are.

Don’t choose based on someone’s name

I read Sandi Teets letter (June 28) and have thought about it for a few days. The one part of the letter that stood out to me was this: “And Barack is a Jr., so the apple can’t fall far from the tree.

Sympathy for illegal immigrants

I had dinner with my 19-year-old son who just finished his first year at Liberty University. We are legal citizens and residents of Virginia.

We must regain our independence

Two hundred and thirty two years ago a people unified under the common cause of liberty and self determination pressed forward from tyranny to declare independence.

Alert to Prince William County taxpayers

Are you aware and do you care that it is not only in Richmond that taxpayers are treated inequitably?

Traffic problems that must be fixed

Virginia has traffic problems that are out of control, roads that need to built, roads that need to be repaired and no money to pay for any improvements.

Correcting the record on Obama

On June 15, this newspaper published a letter by O.P. Ditch titled “Who gets money from Exxon/Mobil?” The writer republished information from the non-governmental, non-partisan Web site OpenSecrets.org, which seemingly showed that Senator Obama had received $32,550 dollars in campaign funds from Exxon/Mobile.

Ending a debate about illegal immigration

Miss Sorto, you make this debate between you and I too easy for me. I am going to state the facts and get the record straight.

Giving thanks for everybody’s support

I would like to take a moment to thank family, friends, coworkers and people in the community of Manassas for their awesome help and support of my husband Howard Lucas, who has been diagnosed with stage 4 terminal pancreatic cancer.

Celebrating a brand new parking deck

Around 11:30 a.m.on June 26 a Ford Escape Hybrid loaded with city officials drove through a ribbon at the entrance to the new VRE parking deck.

Don’t judge just based on a name

There are many ways to judge a presidential candidate. A name is not one of them.
