Put some sense back in government
As we approach July 4 and reflect on the beginning of a democratic society, please let us put some sense back into government in 2008.
What is wrong with this picture?
The Prince William Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to shut down the Manassas Senior Day Program effective June 20, due to the “budget crisis.” It cost the county roughly $150,000 a year.

Instant gratification in the United States
Why can’t politicians just tell us the truth? Maybe because we are all spoiled rotten. I read endless letters to the editor bearing complaints about speed limits.
Support Baldwin this November
A number of Americans, including myself, have concluded that the two major parties have morphed into one entity which exists to advance what is essentially the same agenda and that is: What is in the best interest of the federal government and how do we get around the will of the people?
Happy smiles for injured warriors
I am both a life member of the Veterans of the Vietnam War Inc., and Veterans Coalition Post 06 and The Disabled American Veterans both Chapter 11 and 55. Both organizations advocate better lives for veterans and their families.

Celebrate history at Rippon Lodge
As we prepare to celebrate the birth of our nation with fireworks, parades, picnics and ball games, thousands of folks will visit historic landmarks like Mt. Vernon and Monticello.
Shattering tranquility with too much noise
Vehicle noise is out of control. Stereos and car alarms are bad enough, but cars and motorcycles with modified exhausts are ruining the peace of Prince William County.
A solution to road tax problem
I don’t see why the solution to the road tax is so hard for our state legislature and governor to figure out. We had a way to collect money and it worked for a number of years.
No sympathy for daughter of illegals
So, Jamilla Penarete is upset that the “free ride” courtesy of the Virginia taxpayers has come to an end (“Blocked from the American Dream,” Potomac News, June 27).

Parents be aware of the Adenovirus
I am a 30-year-old, stay-at-home mom of two. I have a 3-year-old son and a one-year-old daughter. On Thanksgiving night my beautiful son passed away from a deadly virus called Adenovirus.
Thanks to all those who supported my position
To all who were in support of my editorial, to those who called me and told me what a good editorial it was, I thank you. It hurts the heart to read the ruling that child rape doesn’t justify the death penalty and that most Americans feel that it doesn’t.

Restoration of the U.S. Constitution
June 30, 2008 may be remembered in history as the day Americans began, in earnest, the moral and solemn process of holding their (servant) government accountable to the Constitution — under threat of withdrawal of allegiance, support and tax money.
A landmark decision by the Supreme Court
On Thursday, June 26, 2008, the Supreme Court of the United States handed down a landmark decision. The Court, in Washington, D.C., v. Heller, finally after 217 years, provided a comprehensive reading on the Second Amendment of the Constitution.
What’s in a presidential candidate’s name?
A naming of a child is one of the first things expectant parents think of when they find out they are going to have a baby.

How can Catholic charities be supported?
I’m amazed how anyone in their mind could support the Catholic charities after they helped a 16-year-old illegal alien get an abortion who got pregnant while in their trust and care.
Some Draconian and Orwellian gun laws
Yesterday I read Gary Jacobsen’s article in the June 24 edition of this paper. The more I thought of it, the more disturbing the Draconian and Orwellian advocating article became.

Cherry picking does not reach the truth
This letter is in response to Mr. Jacobsen’s column on June 24 regarding the Violence Policy Center’s statistics regarding gun violence in Hawaii.

Find something local to write about
It must have been a very very slow news day on June 23.
The ultimate penalty for child rapists
I would ask everyone to search their hearts and try to support the bill coming forth that would assign the death penalty to anyone raping a child.
Same-sex marriage decision all wrong
I cannot say that I am surprised at the general course of action being taken in this regard. It is the outgrowth or lack of common sense and moral decency being displayed by some judges, some politicians and some other people.
Do something before it’s too late
As we approach the end of the Ice Age, which started 11,000 years ago, global warming is no new phenomenon.

Hockey and the sounds of silence
Where’s the beef? Last night was the NHL draft and nary a word in Potomac News. I went online and saw other teams discussed, but nary a word regarding the Caps.

Prince William County: Democracy in action
Special tribute is deserved to John Stirrup (Gainesville Supervisor), Tony Guiffre, (Chairman, PWC Electoral Board), Betty Weimer (PWC General Voting Registrar), Bill Pierce (Chairman, Heritage Hunt Community Relations Committee), and Graig Magargel (Heritage Hunt General Manager).
Wolf should think again on global warming
As a wife and mother, I am deeply concerned about the ways in which Frank Wolf has addressed the issue of global warming.
Being patriotic in the United States
In a recent letter to the editor, it was implied that Barack Obama was unpatriotic because he was not wearing an American flag pin on his lapel (Letters to the Editor, June 12).

Barack Obama’s word is worthless
Recently, Sen. Barack Obama broke a promise he made to the American people. He refused to take part in public financing for the general election.
It’s finally time to dump the pump!
Everyday the media announces a new increase in crude oil prices and gas pump prices.

Virginians shouldn’t be the only ones to pay
It’s beyond me why someone that one would suspect is fairly intelligent would continue to go back to the same well with regards to taxation of Virginia citizens.
